Mark Walton talks excitedly about all the good stuff he's seen going on in Total War: Rome II at Gamescom 2012.
Ok, there are 2 games that are torturing me right now
GTA V and this... please release new trailer just to make me feel better! :D
Oh and the game looks/sounds awesome. I loved Shogun 2 even though many didnt. So much so i bought every other TW game shortly thereafter on Steam summer sale.
Can't wait to see some in-game footage, combined land and sea battles to perform massive beach landings will certainly rock if implemented well, i remember when playing the original Rome, if you landed your troops on a beach and fought a battle there you would see your Triremes standing by the shore on the distance, i always dreamed of actually battling during the disembark and looks that this game will make that dream come true.
With the excellent sea battles presented on Empire Total War i'm getting more and more impatient for 2013 to come.
I always missed the old brutal melee fighting presented on Rome and Medieval 2, Shogun 2 satisfied me a lot in this regard, the three are excellent, but i still feel nostalgic and go back to my original Rome save to see my cohorts charging into enemy lines, Rome 2 will be more than welcome on my Total War collection.
Words or nice gents but PICTURES are better. Video would be great. You got to see a nice little Pre-Alpha...wonderful. Show us.
Still not convinced. This looks like more of the same, except the graphics are more taxing so you can't have truly huge battles without slowdown. Unit sizes still look about 100 or so, I was hoping they would make battles in the tens of thousands by now.
Medievil 2 the sheer terror of meeting the Timurids in the field and panic as your vertern units crumble was awesome. but that was six years ago, Rome 2 is more of the same... but these guys are talking about as if its new..
@KidRockNZ You know it's already difficult enough to manage a 2 full stack army... I don't think there's any need to massively vamp up the number of troops on the field, it'd just make for more confusion (and you yourself just complained about being limited to smaller battles due to the graphics... which is silly because graphics are adjustable). I think what Rome is bringing to the table is the great diversity in troops between nations, beach landing assaults (hell yea!) and the return of all the awesome siege equipment!
This is a re-make after all, you can't expect everything to be totally different, the series is getting more and more refined with each release (generally) so just stay positive, Creative Assembly rock! (Though I'd like to have seen something other than Rome 2, I don't doubt it's greatness)
@KidRockNZ I can only hope that you will be proven wrong good Sir. I really do :)
guys id be worried about this one cause they were talking about making changes to in the campaing map like less more significate battles, and have less micromanging of your empire and also they want characters from history to play a bigger role so there gonna make some big changes to the campaing mode that is gonna makes us RTS lovers hate cause we like micromangement of our empire and armies how we like them and not how sega wants us to like them. which is why i think they are accenting the battle gameplay so much. i hope im wrong but ive got a feeling that there gonna try to make more changes to hopefully attract a larger audience which as been the death rattle of all RTS games
@ragnar320 If your right, I will not get it. Time will tell.
@ragnar320 I think maybe they are, but is that a bad thing? it gets them more money to then make the next game even bigger! Yes it has been the sign of the eminent death of that Franchise but they havn't gone into much detail about it, they have just said you can change proveniences and there are still regions. So my guess is that you can either make something province wide (costing more in the short term but less in the long term) or making it for regions (costing less in the short term, but more in the long term).
well i hope your right dude i really do cause it does seem that want to stream line the campaing map as much as possible which in shogun i thought was pretty well streamlined effectivelly already. sigh ive just got a bad feeling about this cause when every they try to attract a larger audience they end up pissin off the core RTS audience who will for sure buy the game with out another thought (im looking at you EA and how youve ruined C&C TS 4 and now youve ruined C&C Gen 2 by not even making it) ive just seen this happen to many times heck it even happened to the Dawn of War series but that wasnt as bad cause the changes they made were actually pretty cool gameplay wise so i wasnt that disappointed by it. i dont want this too end i want rome 2 to awsome and epic cause i gotta say the DLCs for shogun 2 didnt hold my interest very long Shogun 2 held it for like 500 hours but i didnt like the DLCs so im really nervous cause CA liked the respones they got from those DLCs (i think) hopefully im wrong i really really want to be wrong
dont worry dude ive already got all the CoH on my steam account
Try Company of Heroes. I like SC2 but CoH is much more complex
@ragnar320 Starcraft if mindless though, anyways, you like it, AWSEM!! I just don't, but oh well. I can't wait for it no matter what I am getting it!
yes and ill get it anyway probally cause i just love total war games but im worried im just worried cause cept for starcraft there isnt very many good rts nowadays
@ragnar320 I agree, but it will be amazing none the less right?
I hope they focus much much more on great games like Medieval Total War and Rome Total War rather than Empire:Total War Which was so bad I didnt even bother getting shogun 2. If they return to what made them so great, then it will be an epic winner. Detail is fine, but depth of game play is all that matters really so yay, we can see the soldiers nose hairs... so what? Come back to us Creative! We have missed you!
@moc5 I think youre missing out. I love Empire TW but can see its faults. imo Shogun 2 is probly the best TW out right now. Id at least try the demo.
@moc5 How can you not like Empire? Medieval and Empire are not even anything alike.....Shogun 2 is nothing like them either, they are all amazing games, and stand up for them selves. I love all of them equally.
dude if you didnt play shogun 2 cause of empire you missed out big time i think i drop like 500 hours playing shogun 2(not including DLC just the game) it was epic yes they did make some changes in the campaing map but its alot better than empire cause there you had to maintain your the empire you were given. if you miss micromanging which buildings go in which provence like medieval i think thats a thing of the past no matter how you look at now but shogun 2 you could make a provience a money maker troop maker or like a special angent and then a moral or happiness city there was alot more depth involed. also the battle gameplay was epic. the most fluid gameplay that ive ever played in a total war its awsome to be honest id get it just for the battle gameplay because its so fuild and all the little tweaks theyve made that just make it so much better its very very refined not graphics wise but gameplay. also i think its like 20 bucks on steam dude you reall need to play it
@moc5 What was wrong with Empire? If you meant its bugs and glitches and it came out, it's all been fixed. I find battles with muskets and rifles and cannons very interesting from the conventional melee/cav/archer battles we have in TW.
@chaosbrigade @ragnar320 @SpazldNinjaDude I feel the need to clarify here a bit. First off Medieval Total War 2 is my absolute favorite game of all time despite the not so smart somewhat glitchy AI. As far as depth goes with all that it entails, Empire Total War felt 'filtered' to me. The battles were great. I had no complaints there, but what keeps me playing for 1000's of hours (no joke) is the endless upgrades for the towns and new armour for the units and the acquisition of new units as you upgrade As well as the Battles which are epic. With every faction having unique units and battle strategies, the game plays differently every time. The shear amount of content, depth, and replayability in Meadeival Total Wat was was only surpassed by Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (My former all time favorite game). I can hope they put all that into Rome Total War. I guess I'll give Shogun 2 another look.
The UK news crew for GS is so much more entertaining than the US one.
Can't wait to see some actual live footage of this thing! It's going to be a looong wait until release.
