The only real flaws I can find are its a bit easy and a little repetitious.

I have to admit I never really got into the whole dungeon crawler thing. I never played Diablo 1+2 and never saw the appeal to. Yet when this game came out and I saw screens and reviews I had to get it. I have to say the time I spent with Torchlight was a extremely fun one and I am glad I bought it.

Story:

The story is your character is a might warrior and goes to the town torchlight. Torchlight is a mining town that has something called ember and it is a magical source that can empower people or items. Long story short your character gets infected with ember the good news is you are extremely powerful, more powerful than ever before. The bad news is you are infected with the Ember and will eventually die from it. You then have to go deep into the mine and then even more deeper and deeper to try and fight off the monster infected with Ember and try to rid yourself of the Ember before its too late. Yet the story really isn't vital since there is rarely a cutscene most of it is told through speech bubbles.

Gameplay:

Honestly there really isn't much to tell you use mostly the left mouse button for attacking, talking, moving, basically everything and hotkeys for potions or items. It is almost like a point and click adventure game. You want your character to move click to the spot, attack a enemy click on him until they are dead, pick up items click on them etc etc. You also level up and there are a ton of abilities to pick from. The game oddly sucks you into this magical world filled with corrupted mutants and the small mining town of torchlight. It has that one more level mentality where you want to get one floor deeper of the mine and then call it quits.

The game mostly takes place in dark caverns in the mines. They have floors and honestly I can't physically tell you how far I went down into the Earth's crust. Luckily after specific points there are portals that bring you back to torchlight and can bring you back into the mine again. There are even scrolls and magical spells that can save your place in the mine and bring you right back to the surface.

A cool thing about the game is that there are only 3 classes. A solider, mage, rouge. They each have their own specialties. Like a mage wouldn't use a big sword, but a magical staff and use more magical abilities. The game developers thought about this and there is something called a universal chest in torchlight. This chest is open to all 3 classes so lets say you played and beat the game as a solider (it will take awhile if you do the seemingly unlimited side quests)but found a ton of mage items and threw them into the universal chest. You play the game again as a mage and go to the chest all the items your previous character put in there are in it. I found that awesome.

Now I know what you are thinking why replay the game? Well because every floor of the dungeon or mine is always randomly generated. So you could have played this level before, but this time it will have completely different lay out.

Finally the game has another cool feature that feature is your pet. You have a pet in the game and they are somewhat useful, but not really. Yet what they do great in is selling items. See when you go through the crust of the Earth you will find a ton of items from armor to weapons to just magical scrolls. Yet the biggest problem with that is most of the time they are useless you have bigger and better items on you. Yet your inventory is filling up what do you do? You put all your items onto your pet and send them to torchlight where everything is sold and you get the money back right away. I found that awesome. The only real problem is the deeper you go into the dungeon the longer it takes for your pet to return and your inventory could already be filled back up again in that time.

There is only a small amount of problems that I had with the game. The first is its repetitious you will fight the same enemies over and over again. Also clicking on a enemy just attacks them once you need to keep clicking on them again and again which eventually will hurt your fingers since the game spawns massive amounts of them. Also the levels even though randomly generated have the same color or backgrounds and it adds to the repetition. Another problem I had was the game is too easy. The game just spams health potions like there is no tomorrow I literally have a excess of health potions. Also the off chance you do die there is very little effects you lose some xp and fame. I still have no idea what fame is I think it has something to do with discounts.

Graphics:

I really liked the graphics. It is a cartoony looking world, but its not dreadful to look at.

Audio:

The music is alright and the voice acting is pretty good too.

Pro's

A fun lengthy adventure, it seems to have unlimited amount of side quests, the universal chest is great, spams enemies like there is no tomorrow, long list of power ups when you level up,randomly generated levels, a amazing amount of items, sucks you in, the pet can sell things for you, don't have to stay in the mine/dungeon the whole time thanks to portals, at times it goes on sale for only $5.

Con's

It can be a tad too easy, gives out a little too much health potions, the story gets lost along the way thanks to side quests or you just sorta forget about it, little penalty for death, the levels even though randomly generated have the same backgrounds, fight the same monsters over and over again.

Overall:

Overall I have to say I really enjoyed this game. If other dungeon crawlers are as fun as this then I might have to get into this type of genre. This game is great for newcomers and old timers of dungeon crawlers. For a mere 20 bucks (sometimes 5) you are doing yourself a HUGE favor if you buy it.
