Check out a cinematic intro trailer for the upcoming role-playing game Torchlight II.
TL kicks ass! Nice to see real gamers making a real Gamers game. I love it! I bought it! And for every like or bad comment I see, I'll buy another copy to give ti a friend until im broke, because that is how I feel about real Gamers making great games.
What good is a game video without showing gameplay? This looks more like Shank than anything else.
I played it for a bit and I think as far as actual game play and dark style goes Diablo 3 has this beat. The only thing this game has going for it vs. Diablo 3 is no online DRM, but I do like some of its features like stats for gear and attribute points old school style. In the end though it's just not enough, and comes off as a lil bit too generic.
Mot much of a trailer in my opinion.
Anyways this have little to do with the games quality.
Just look at WH: Mark of Chaos..
Hey it's not Diablo! See what I did there? felt the need to point that out since most people talk about Diablo more then TL on TL's sections.
As far as I have seen game looks really nice and worth attention. So, my sggestion is no judge according trailer ;)
General style of the cinematic reminds me of Shank. I suppose it's the same artist. Still, it's a pretty generic cinematic.
Hope they fixed some thing from last game, it was not bad game but as I played more and more some generic stuff bored me to death...
I totally enjoyed Torchlight 1! The only thing i missed was a co-op mode so i can have fun with my friends. Now this has been fixed in Torchlight 2 i already see hours of fun with friends looting Torchlight 2 dungeons :)
@Oggy1985 you payed 60$ for a fremium game and you don't even realize it, i pity you and every single person the the real money AH in d3..
BUT, related to this game, the first one was the spiritual follow up to diablo 2, it's pretty much made by the original diablo team, and they didn't take 12 years to make it...
@peteywentout What's your problem? Where did i pay 60$? Guess you're mistaking Diablo 3 for TL2 :D
Just don't troll the thread and focus on what other people actually write.
Still dislike like this cartoon style art. However, I sold my armor in D3 for 25 USD for this game. FREE game hellyeah!
This is the game I am counting the days for, and I don't have to build a brand new i7 rig with a Nvidia 680 GTX or Ati 7970 to play it. Who said great gaming always has to mean a brand new build or upgrade. Runic Games you have a huge fan keep up the great work!
lol, after playing d3 intensely all the way to inferno, im saying from 3rd person perspective, this game might no sold as much as d3 did but it has a good chance to be more fun than 3.With the poor class balance, painful farming for random stats bs item, short and uninspired story line, fail organized AH, and no end game incentive, yes d3 is really in a mess right now in certain perspective. Torchlight 2 might look simple but at least it could be charming, addicting and "fun" without having the problem of number crunching the gear stats and cost if you want to do well in d3 end game.
@dreamchaserwu yup. there is no reason to keep playing d3 unless you just like grinding endlessly for no real reason. Can't wait for T2 hoping its what we all thought D3 would be....ended up being far from anything anyone wanted. I'll be stunned if anyone is still playing in a year
This animation style can be effective when used properly, but for a game like this that is a competitor against the famed Diablo series, this animation is a step backwards imho.
still looking forward to the game, but let's be honest, this clip was pretty weak lol.
I want them to put it on Xbox arcade like the first Torchlight... please?(:
It doesn't look like a 90s cartoon at all, it looks like a flash cartoon, a pretty well animated one at that. I WISH cartoons from back then looked like this though, that would've been awesome. I doubt my childhood self would be able to appreciate it though.
Its sad to see people saying how they love diablo 2 and how diablo 3 will be better then torchlight 2. Maybe if they did there homework they would see that many of the original people from blizzard north aka creators of diablo 2 made torchlight and torchlight 2. Diablo 3 is made by people who made WOW oh yay lol
Being similar in terms of gameplay and mechanics to Diablo III, it's a tough to time to launch the game. It's like launching a Percy Jackson movie against Harry Potter- both great fantasies, but if you can only pick one to go see, most fans are going to Harry Potter. Its predecessor benefited from the Diablo fans that were hungry for something to tide them over for Diablo III. Launching against Diablo III is just going to be tough. Torchlight was a great game, and I wish nothing but success for its sequel. I am hopeful that Diablo III fans will budget some of their time for what I hope to be another great Torchlight. Go, go Runic Games!
ZOMG it being published by PERFECT *micro-transactions* WORLD. I'm having second thoughts now :/
@Kastigador I agree with LtReviews... I don't think it's that complicated. If the issue is that Blizzard is afraid that their game is going to be pirated (Which it would be) Then they have the right to worry. Let me set an example that I've already experienced: I bought their Starcraft 2 game at the release date, when I get back to the office, the fellas are already playing the cracked version of the game (Yes, even the cracked game was released the same date they release the game). That alone proves that it's unreasonable to make the always-online game. Also, I'm sure you know that Blizzard made an offline mode on Starcraft 2 yes? I'm sure they don't want their fans to be disappointed, that's why they got that offline mode patch. I just hope that they will do the same on Diablo 3. Still.. either way, I'm buying both Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3, but more likely I will be playing more time on Torchlight 2 (Especially if I got the sudden disconnection of the net)
@kastigador No, it would not be more complicated. People who jump in defense of this act like offline play would have to be "created" or like it would take any additional work. That is absurd. Code must be ADDED to the code already there at the game's base to make it so game data, almost like encrypted cookies, can only be received by their server, which can then return the response data that is needed for the game to run, as determined by additional code they've added. The very EXISTENCE of a always online verification system means that an offline component is already there, and has simply been made unavailable. And yes, the same mechanisms by which verification occurs, would also ensure any "offline" character data couldn't possibly be used online. There is no complicated process. They can't be duped.
just DIABLO III everything in DIABLO III is better than T2 I really LOVE DIABLO II yet and play it
Torchlight 2 is going to be amazing. I'd buy D3 as well but constant online connection required = no thanks.
I'm really looking forward to Torchlight 2. 3 x length of Torchlight + LAN Co-Op + low price = definite purchase. Diablo 3 + constant online + no LAN + high price = no thanks. :P Regarding the quality of the opening cinematic - it's a bit cheesy and understated, but I don't mind it. They don't have the same budget as Blizzard to make some awesome CGI intro - and tbh I'd rather they spent more money on the actual game content than have some apocalyptically gorgeous intro movie.
I'm not worried that D3 and T2 are going to be released near the same time - I think they are for different audiences. D3 looks great and I'm sure it'll be fun, but online only? no thanks. T1 was a gem of a game and T2 I think will continue that. I have to be honest here, I'll be pirating D3 in order to play it offline (like I have to do for Starcraft 2) and buying T2, simply because I know I won't get any DRM hassle from Runic.
D3 will still be very successful. Blizzard has that "Rockstar" brand name going for it even if it is dooming the longevity and popularity of its Diablo 3. Provided they nail the polish factor, T2 will also be successful but with a different niche fan base. Everyone is making a lot of fuss about the cash AH and the online mode only... The cash AH is simply the nature of the beast with (M)MORPG's... if it's not blizzard taking a small cut, it's ebay/paypal getting theirs. At least the money is going to the same company that runs the system the items reside in. The online mode I agree is annoying, but D3 is ultimately a MORPG thats long term popularity will hinge on competition in PVP etc. No doubt Blizzard wants to ensure all character data stays with them so nothing can be duped. Sure, they could create a completely offline mode only option, but now you're complicating an already lengthy Q&A process to satisfy a small minority. Trust me, I don't like it, but I understand why they made the decision to do what they did. I don't think its DRM as much as its centralizing control of accounts so people can't cheat. Is the cure worse than the disease? Well thats up for debate....
@ grokh if it was 10 yrs ago I would agree..but you're making a fatal mistake..Diablo's hype machine..it's gonna make a bajillion dollars just by brand name alone
its funny that torchlight 2 is being made by the people that made diablo 2, so in a way torchlight 2 is closer to being diablo 3 than diablo 3 itself. and with the screw ups from blizzard on diablo 3 aka no offline, no modding, client game must be online, and biggest of all real money AH. Torchlight 2 has a bigger chance of success.
Hope there will be more content this time, the first TL was fun but got frustratingly repetitive towards the end.
@maderrin not saying i disagree but i would say its got a better chance of not being AS repetitive as D3 is. I'm really stoked about T2 and hope it gets a great, loyal fanbase to drive towards and T3
