Let me start by saying I didn't DESPISE D3 like most people. But that was probably because I never played any of the previous diablo games. I grew up playing baulders gate so D3 really isn't so bad compared to that. Anyway after playing torchlight 2 I can see why people were so disappointed with D3. Torchlight is much bigger. You can actually explore in this game and find alternate quests and really fun challenges all for awesome loot. D3 is walk down a straight narrow quest line and repeat. The loot in torchlight is always something to look forward to unlike D3 where coming across a useful item is so rare. Loot in torchlight you actually have to think about what you want to equip because you can build your character in different ways. In D3 you just look for your classes main stat point and if it's higher than what you got you equip it. Also there are gear sets in torchlight which give your character special bonuses for equipping multiple items of the same set. Skill trees in torchlight offer much more variety in ways to build your character. You can distribute stat points and every stat is useful to every class in one way or another. Unlike D3 where your class uses 1 specific stat. More skills/spells in torchlight and you can put skill points in each spell to make it stronger. Just endless character customization.
Bottom line Torchlight just feels so much more vast and rich in so many ways. I would trade my $60 copy of D3 for a $20 torchlight 2 any day. Warning: this game is extremely addictive!!
