    If I purchase the game directly from:

    Will I get a giftable copy? I helping to purchase it for a friend who is not too keen on Steam DRM.

    You get a code to validate an installation with. You just give your friend the code. It's not locked to any other account so you don't need a "giftable copy" since you're always getting "a copy", so to say - it's your choice what to do with it.
