The annoyances by far outweigh the fun, making this game a very frustrating experience..

I usually love these types of games. there's something really fun and rewarding when playing grindy hack & slash loot-fest RPGs. But Too Human is just so poorly designed, it really makes you wonder what the developers were thinking. Ok so maybe I haven't spent enough time with the game to understand the mechanics, but the game itself makes it very hard for me to want to.

When you first start up the game, you get to pick one of five different starting characters to play as. They all seem fairly unique to some extent. The Champion or Defender probably seem like the better choices for a first build, and seeing as how I didn't go for one of them, might explain why I had a hard time staying alive. The first thing you'll notice when playing the game, is the right analogue stick being used for melee attacks, rather than being used to control the camera. This would be the first frustrating part of the game. Not being able to control the camera becomes a nuisance really fast, which will lead to death more often than not. Unbalanced enemies will also frustrate you quite often. For example, sometimes enemies will shoot at very far range, but for some reason, will never run out of ammo or have to reload. If it were one or two it wouldn't be so bad, but it's usually 5 or more at some times. And of course you have to take care of the other 10 closer enemies hacking and slashing you form all corners, while you try to avoid the range attacks.

So dying will be frequent, or at least it was for me. The problem with dying isn't your typical loss of experience points or loot, but rather a loss of sanity. Every time you die, you must stare at a long animation of some shinny angel carry your guy to the "heavens" and then randomly pop back into the game (sometimes nowhere near where you actually died). The developers figured this would be a good idea to penalize the player with an annoying animation after dying from an impossible battle, that will most likely kill you again and again, until the last enemy is destroyed.

There is some fun to be had however. The character tree for each character type are varied and will allow you to make some (eventually) pretty strong characters. The loot is also quite fun to gather, seeing as how much of it you'll be getting. There's also a lot of secrets to be found as well. Being able to play co-op is also a neat feature, and probably recommended for added fun. The game is very short however (and the story doesn't make much sense), but it was probably designed that way seeing as how you'll need to do multiple playthroughs to max out your characters.

Ok, so the game is meant to be hard, and frustrating I suppose. But somewhere in there the fun is overshadowed with these annoyances and that to me is the sign of a poorly designed game. However, if you love to grind and gather loot, and can find this game for cheap, I'd say go for it.
