We skate some gnarly vintage maps in this video review
This game is full of glitches, which is really disappointing because i was really looking forward to this game. I hope they release some free DLC or else i feel that i have wasted my money.
And the fact it's mostly new tracks is a good thing, the original only had 5 or so tracks which drove me nuts
just to think that i bought it right when i saw...
regrets....
no bob burnquist...
I know it sucks they don't have create a skater or park, and they left out some of my favorite skaters from the original games. But the game is only $15. You guys must be out of your minds if you expected this to include everything from the original. We get half of everything, for half the price, so it's fair. Online multiplayer is fun, no lag whatsoever.
@huerito323 half the game for half the price? It's not half the price, it's a re-skinned game that came out 15 years ago. There is no reason for a game that came out on the PS1 to be HDified and still not have many of the aspects that made the original so engrossing.
$15 is a lot to pay for a demo....
Why does everyone say skate is better, thats like saying Forza is better than Mario Kart, two totally different types of games. One is more arcade style the other is more realistic style.
All I'm going to say is that I've enjoyed it for the time I've put into it (around 10 or so hours to completely beat the whole thing, projectives and all). However, I do agree with all the problems it has; and for those that say they will be fixed in DLC which we will most likely have to pay for, I say bull ****. The game is already $15, I'm not going to pay more.
Did gamespot finally quit with their automatic follow-up vids, or am I just luy tonight?
Literally all I wanted from this would have been shiny new graphics on THPS2, everything else intact. I would have bought that like crazy.
No local multiplayer, no create a skater system, lack of the greater maps.... How is this better than the original again??
Truly sad. I waited so long, but from the moment I played the demo I knew I wasn't buying this crap.
@p4kman88 Where do you get skate 3 for less than 15 bucks? also it being more fun that THPS is opinion, two totally different types of games, sure they both have skate boards but the gameplay is soooo different its hard to compare them.
ebay used for ps3 is $10.00...and yeah your right they are two totally different games...one's totally good while the other is totally crap....at least skate 3 makes people actually want to go out and skate...tony hawk makes people feel like a dime store hacker....yeah i know it's an opinion...i thought that's what the "comment" section was for...sharing opinions...with other gamers....about the subject of video or article......BUT that's just my OPINION.....
@p4kman88 I know many who think THPS is better than Skate, really neither is better than the other. I prefer Hockey over Football, does that mean one sport is better than the other, no, it just means I prefer one over the other. Also I prefer redhead women over others, does that mean blondes brunettes etc are all crap, no it just means I like redheads.
I was so pumped for this. However, definitely doesn't appear to be worth the price tag. Perhaps someday when it's on sale.
The reason those things are missing is because....
Activision is going to charge you for it later.
not feelin the revisit of THPS, bet they took away auto kick and giant mode too...
with those two it could have been an 8+ for me. Not sure though as I haven't played the game yet. This is what started it all for me though - 11 years later and still passionate about skateboarding.
to be honest, you could probably have more fun on the skate 3 demo than this game though, if not for nostalgia purposes.
The original THPS was 9 maps and had 10 songs and was a full priced release this game is 15 bucks, what a bunch of whiners.
Meh. Skate was a true evolution. Going back to this is like passing up Battlefield for Wolfenstein.
@marinermick Totally different types of games in both scenario's, I like battlefield but I also like wolfenstein for different reasons, just like I like THPS and Skate for different reasons.
If you want to save some money and play a better game that might be just as long go buy Limbo on Steam. I think they even have a sick summer sale for it. Like $3.
@stan_boyd Silly me, they must have left that feature out. Good thing it wasn't as important as SPLIT SCREEN IN A TONY HAWK GAME.
@stan_boyd I personally love split screen and wish it was implemented in more games today. When split screen was available in Black Ops, I played split screen with my fiancé. Not just split screen, but ONLINE split screen. This was probably one of the BEST features I have seen in recent games and it would encourage me to purchase a lot more games if the feature was offered. (Dead Island, Most racing games, etc.)
@Tygraph Also why would I buy limbo to save money, I played the demo and didn't care for it, not my style of game.
@Tygraph Split screen isn't important anymore, now we have online play. While split screen would be nice hardly any games utilize it anymore yet people still rave about those games. Seriously people are just looking for reasons to be pissed off. When was the last time you played Counterstrike or Team Fortress split screen? How about CoD or Battlefield? What about Diablo, Mario Galaxy, Assassins Creed etc etc etc.
When did they go "hey, yeah, 7 levels and NO split screen would make for a great remake!"
Yeah I LOVE the Tony Hawk franchise so seeing this footage kind of brings me down. :(
Looks like I'll just stick to the older games. Then again, I haven't played them in a while so there should be plenty of freshness there once again. :)
Either way, I love these games so it has been pretty baffling to see the weird turns they've decided to take with them over the years. And the second they made the skate deck for the last two I tuned out. I actually liked EVERY game in the series up until they made you stand on a skate deck to play it. The problem being that when I sit down to play Tony Hawk I'll often play it for hours so standing on a wobbly board for hours doesn't sound like fun to me. If I wanted that I'd just go out skateboarding.
Take the series back to Underground era quality and add some new things such as BMX or blading and I think the series can rise back up once again. And since this is just an HD remake why didn't they just remake all of the levels of the first two games since they decided to make some of the goofier downhill ones anyway? Whatever, I'll see what they do with updates (hopefully moar levels and modes) and if that ends up being good (or it goes real cheap on Steam) I'll pick it up.
I was soooo pumped to play this game! Bought it right away and was soooo disappointed. Horrible physics, controls and gameplay. Not very many levels. Missing the spine transfer, ground tricks, etc., even if those weren't around when this game originally came out, they should have been included. Music sucks. Missing Horse mode.?? WTF?? The best 2-player mode is gone. Dumb. Not really that close to the originals that you may think. I don't know how you can "remake" two awesome groundbreaking games and somehow make them much worse. Of course, this game comes from the company that actually ruined the Tony Hawk series with the last two games that came out..Robomodo or whatever the hell they are called. Not worth 15 bucks or even 10. Sad... And now we have to pay more to get THPS3 levels from DLC. Thanks!!!
@syf82277 I would love to see a complete pack with all levels from PS1-4 as well because that'd just be awesome, I mean PS3 had some really cool maps
@syf82277 This is THPS HD...i use to play THPS 1 and 2...the game is fine. it plays just like it did. its hard to play so i understand that some ppl wont like it because they got use to it being way to easy. welcome to the good old days.
@remaster1989 Yeah I agree idk what he's going on about, although I DO wish that Philadelphia from THPS2 made it in xD I loved that map. Also why would they add the new features of the Tony Hawk series when THAT'S what kind of ruined it by making it too damn easy?
@greebe55 Funny thing is back in the day people used to complain about split screen and how it makes it hard to see all thats going on blah blah wish we could connect in other ways blah blah. Now that we have the internet for multiplayer everyone is complaining about the lack of split screen :P
@stan_boyd if anyone ever complained about split screen other than the fact that screen cheating was possible, you shouldn't have friends that want to play with you.
@stan_boyd i never complained about it, infact back in the day all i ever did with games was split screen
