Only half of what it used to be...

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD had a chance to do something great, and it falls extremely short of doing so. I would like to say I am surprised, but as I take a look back at the direction the series has taken after the release of Underground, I can't help but blame myself for not expecting it.

Since THPS Underground 2, the series has been struggling to recover its identity, which before that release, was consistent and making strides with each new edition. After Underground, the THPS series entered into this foolish mode of cartoony antics, poor attempts at open-world expansion, and innovations that, although fun ideals, were never truly wanted in the first place and poorly executed for both (Tony Hawk Ride).

This title had an opportunity to rectify this identity crisis, and bring the series back to form, maybe not with a title that was "new" in a sense, but with a title that returned to the formula that everyone grew to love and expected from the series in 1 - 4. Even though not a complete title, it could've thrown feelers out there to see just how many fans would enjoy seeing a THPS 5, a true one.

However, what we received was an uninspired, half-hearted mess. From questionable level choices, to the Underground 2 appearance, and even the fluidity of the gameplay itself, THPS HD has done nothing. Dust off your PS2, or if you're one of the rare ones like me (since my PS2 no longer works), dust off your THPS 2X (original XBOX - yes, it exists, look it up) and just relive the glory years with a little genuine nostalgia. Do not fall for this farce.
