The basic gameplay has stayed the same. X is jump, Square is fliptrick, O is grab, triangle is grind, R2 is revert, up-down is manual, and the d-pad or the analog stick is move. But it also adds spine transers, by hitting R2 while in the air, you move to a ramp in front of the ramp you came off of, that is facing the other direction. The manual tricks that were special tricks in THPS3 are now regular tricks. While hitting different combinations of the face buttons while in a manual, you can do tricks like pogo's and handstands. There is also a new move called skitch, where you hold onto the back of a car and it pulls you.
The game now isn't based on how many goals you can do in 2 mins. Now you have an unlimited amount of time to explore each location. Then, you just skate up to someone and talk to them to start a goal. While there are still the goals you've come to know like collecting the skate letters and getting high scores, this new system give you the oppurtunity to do goals that you couldn't do before. Like luging and believe it or not... trapping elephants. Another cool new goal type is special tricks goals. You do a certain special trick and you learn that. Then you can change that trick with many others. When you do enough goals, you do a pro challenge for each pro. Like for Bob Burnquist, you do a lot of tricks in a huge loop. There is also a create-a-skater and a create-a-park. The soundtrack is also the best in the series. It has great songs from AC/DC, Less Than Jake, NWA, and more. The game's graphics are great too. I also spent many hours playing horse and graffitti. You can play online too.
In conclusion, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is an amazing game. The Best in the Series. If you have not played this game, go out right now and get it!
