Tomb Raider: Underworld User Review

- "Broken"
i just finished playing tomb raider underworld on the wii. it's more or less a sequel to tomb raider legend which i played on the gamecube. it continues the story about Lara's search for her mother who is supposedly in a mythic place called Avalon.
like tomb raider anniversary on the wii you play with the wii-mote and nunchuk. controls are slightly different now and not an improvement. also, the controls are less subtle resulting in many sudden deaths. at times you move the nunchuk to the left ans Lara moves to the right and every time you want to jump to a platform you're just hoping she jumps in the right direction. more often then not you can't see Lara's feet or arms because they disappear in the surroundings. Then there's the infamous Mexico-glitch where the bar to open the final door is missing. Did somebody do that on purpose? Also at one time i finished a level, I believe it was Thailand, and then the screen went black and i had to pull the plug out of the wii to get it working again. It's like this game was never tested but rushed to the stores to meet some stockholder's deadline. To make matters worse the wii version of underworld, unlike anniversary is a bit of a "light" version. The puzzles are made less complex, your health regenerates and there are far less enemies. Sharks and bats are just missing in this version and whatever combat there is is ridiciously easy. the main enemies are the camera and the controls.
So are there any good things about underworld? Yes there are. Lara looks really nice. the levels do make you want to really go to these places like Thailand or Mexico (don't recommend Mexico these days though) The music is really good especially the ambient tracks. You hear bells and birds in Thailand and itīs just great. Also the story, though ridiculous as it was is satisfying at the end.
If you want to play Tomb Raider on the nintendo wii i recommend finding anniversary. If you want to play Underworld i recommend playing it on a PC or Playstation 3.

Lara's character build took a major leap forward, but the puzzles were too easy and Lara still lacks vulnerability.
