Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft User Review
- Difficulty:
- Very Hard
- Time Spent:
- 40 to 100 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Worth playing"
Intro: Tomb Raider III came after two solid games that were also commercially succesful. The first two games were very similar both in look, structure, and play yet this game does take several departures. If you played the first 2 and liked them, you will likely enjoy this adventure.
Story/Presentation: For being released in 1998, Tomb Raider three while it does show its age, is still a great game. Although it starts as the most unmotivating game of the series, it quicky turns into a very exciting adventure. The level design, though lacking in India, greatly improves as the game goes on. So as you go along, the game gets much better. Do not get caught up at the beginning thinking its boring, it gets good as soon as you're out of there
Sound: Very similar to Tomb Raider II, it contains midis which although lack sound quality, are original and can contribute to the feel. However as they are so spaced out, you will likely not even notice.
Gameplay: Ultimatly for Tomb Raider III, the gameplay is both the best and worst thing about it. This was the first Tomb Raider game to be filled with bugs, especially on the PC version. However, if you play it in the PS, you wont have any problems. This is BY FAR, the most difficult and frustrating Tomb Raider game in the series. However, it is highly rewarding. The Nevada and Antarctica levels were highly enjoyable and very playable for the most part. However, without a guide, both India and the South Pacific levels will take you a very long time to complete. Other than that, it plays very similar to Tomb Raider II.
Final Thoughts: Tomb Raider III is the most difficult of the series but also on of the most diverse. Its level design was the first game to really show creativity just as in Tomb Raider Chronicles and Angel of Darkness, but there are some parts that take so long that you will get tired out anc can lose motivation to play. If you like Tomb Raider in general, you should certainly play this game.
