Addition, Nothing Special...

User Rating: 8 | Tomb Raider Chronicles PS
Chronicles, if it had only come out for the PC, could have been an addition to The Last Revelation. Absolutely no innovation was put into the making of this game, suffice to say it was a great idea for TLR, it doesn’t seem to push the envelope in any way. Bringing back old characters, keeping the stories the same, game play the same, the lack of a non-linear schedule, it feels so much like TLR that it seemed to be an expansion pack.
But enough about that. The three stories were good in execution, though not developed as fully as they should be, but the fourth story (Young Lara, I know, third in line, but last for the purpose of my argument) was awful. No weapons, powerless, it felt like the original Tomb Raider on sedatives without guns. Hardly Tomb Raider-sequel but a necessary component to the story of Lara's life. The character model from TR: TLR is the same, again, lending itself to a rushed completion using the same tech. and engines.
One last thing before it wraps up: What happened to "The Story So Far..."? I want to see all the CGI at once! Another beautiful addition to the first three Tomb Raider games was the fact that we could load the game and click a "story so far" button, grab a snack and watch the entire thing...like a movie. Which was a major feature, at least to me. Chronicles was far too tame and "been there, done that" for me. Although, being a fan of the series, true to it's end, I enjoyed it for what it was worth and look forward to the next jump in the series, both in terms of compilation and execution.
