A fun and addictive 3rd person shooter/stealth hybrid with great potential, but falls short of excellence

First of all I would like to say that I have never played another Splinter Cell game, and now that I have Conviction, I am going to buy the entire series. The Sam Fisher I know is only from this game, so I will not be saying how much he has changed from last game as I do not know.

I will start off with a list of the pros and cons of single player and then co-op:

Single Player:

+ A strong story in my opinion, one that accurately conveys the previous story to those who have never played another SC game before.

+ A solid amount of guns available each with pros and cons, which make your choice on how to play the mission very interesting

+ Weapon attachments are for the most part good, although the amount could be better, and could benefit from more variety

+ Shooter mechanics are also solid, so that shooting an enemy is easy and not a painful experience

+ I have heard that the amount of gadgets available are not as much as previous games, but I have no complaints about them, especially the sticky camera

+ P.E.C. challenges are an interesting but challenging way of earning xp and purchasing gun attachments

+ Mark and execute takes care of sniping people at great distances with ease, only problem is that your gun isn't accurate at that range in manual shooting...

+ A great cover system rivaling that of GoW (Gears of War)

- No sonar so far in story mode

- No night vision goggles either

- Enemies spot you for no reason sometime

- Not enough assassination types and no knife to stab your enemies or throw

- Sometimes guns seem inaccurate when compared to regular shooter games

Co-op:

+ Sonar goggles ftw

+ More suit types to buy, only problem is that they don't act as camouflage, only as a skin

+ Upgrades for suits provide choice for a relatively well armored juggernaut, a gadget hound, or a shooter with lots of ammo

+ Coordination with your partner provides interesting ways to take down enemies as a team

+ Lots of varieties of game types, from hunter to co-op story

- no night vision goggles

- sometimes your partner is stupid and you pay for it. I mean how do they know there is two of you?

This is how I broke down the game, and I hope my review will prove helpful to anyone considering buying or renting the game.
