What exactly is detection in Blacklist

Just wondering if anyone knows the specific details on detection in Blacklist. I am assuming detection is when an enemies' detection meter turns red and then your outline of last known position appears. I am trying to beat every campaign mission undetected. If you reload a checkpoint after you are detected do you lose the undetected goal/checkmark at the mission summary? In other words, do you need to beat a mission the whole way through without being detected/retrying checkpoints?

It also counts if the enemy finds undeniable evidence of your presence. Corpses, destroyed equipment, explosions, or just too much noise (like, calling the same guy over several times) can make the enemy go into alarm state. And yes, loading a checkpoint reverts everything you did in the meantime (except the collection of laptops and data sticks).
