A nice turn based strategy

User Rating: 7 | Tom Clancy's EndWar DS
Endwar is a turn based strategy game. You can play as one of the factions, the EU enforcer, the American Joint Strike Force and Russian Spetsnaz. The difficulty is Easy, Medium and Hard respectively. There are 3 battlefields, which are the same for each factions campaign, Northern Europe, Middle East and Alaska. There is a back story, but it's so stupid, and so is the dialogue, that you won't take much notice.

The gameplay is basically turn based strategy. You have an arsenal of Tanks, Helicopters, Boats, Bomber, artillery and infantry at your disposal in games and it's up to you to use them wisely. You'll have to manoeuvre the AA guns to block of aircraft, defend artillery from enemy vehicles and get the your aircraft at the tanks.

You also can control depots, which can produce or stock up on units. This can give a great boost when it's needed. The combat boils down to rock, papers, scissors. To increase your likelihood of success , you can jam enemies by surrounding them with another unit, and depending on it's stats, get a nifty percentile bonus.

The visuals are ok from the tactical map. When you enter combat, it shows the units firing off, often in different directions depnding on the enemy unit.

The game comes with a map editor, but this is extremely basic and not much can be made.
You can engage in skirmishes to keep yourself amused. There is 2 player play here, but I didn't get a chance to test it out.

Overall, it's not a bad game. I wouldn't recommend paying full price, but if you want a strategy fix, it should do.
