Some is new, but much of the same.

This is not better then Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero but it is till a great game and has lot to offer. All is same but there are things that you may find not up your expectations.

This time around licensed cars are here from the most popular Japanese manufacturers. All cars are customizable and can have a custom paint job as well. You can paint the whole body of the car and also add stickers and so on. There is more highway to go around and now with added rain effect that makes driving more challenging. All cars handle differently and can be tuned to your needs.

The game visually looks improved, but not so much of that is good when you see how everything in the draw distance pops up and all. I hate this in any racing game. The game appears somewhat dark and not that exiting…..Thinking you are in Tokyo and as we know it has lot of lighted up buildings. And this is not noticeable in the game at all, you need to get really close to something in the far distance to see it. The textures in this game and effects are the most improved of visuals. There is rain effect and looks well done too. Cars look very good but I hated the reflections on them. The menu design is alright I still like the one in Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 on Dreamcast.

Music in this game is not as good as in the previous at all. Some tunes are good but not much is there for the race. Other then that the sounds FX are all good. This area in general could have been worked on some more.

So with all that said Tokyo Xtreme Racer continues to be one of the most unique racing games. Fans will love it regardless, but others will get something even if they rent it. For those who never played the series don’t make this one your first. You need to check out Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero.
