Wndled him down to a 1/1000th of his health before I starved to death, it's not doable... maybe it would be if the checkpoint SAVED MY PET MEDS THT I SAVED FOR THIS DAMN FIGHT!

are you just running up to him and attacking?
remember lunges do a lot more damage then your regular attack your best bet is to hide then lunge though i think with those claws the bear gives you you can clean kill the tiger

The sabertooth tiger?
let him do the jump attack and dodge it
He will get stuck in the ground for a while letting you wail on him
when he gets up, start baiting out the jump attack again by staying a distance from him and repeat

The tiger can be one hit clean killed, hide in the bushes conveniently located near him, pounce.
The chimpenzees with the claws were much harder to take out.

OK you mean the saber tooth? From memory there are a couple of packages hidden around, walk as far as you can both ways before the cut scene starts I think you find a couple of pet medicines which help.
Theres no way you should be starving to death, your hunger is refilled when you retry the fight.
His pounce is telegraphed by a spin, dodge when you see that then after the pounce misses get close and wail on him after. Also, if he starts retreating slowly then keep moving in and attacking, you should then get the red fangs so you can do a lunge attack. Press r1 as many times as you can quickly when you get the critical. Had to repeat that 2 or 3 times then he died.

It's not paused DURING the fight and it won't let me eat the dead beagle on the ground.... so...

Yeah, it took a few tries to see his pattern of pouncing, but once you get that down, it shouldn't take more than a minute to complete the fight. I would imagine it's possible to die a few times if he decides not to pounce, but I think that would be a rarity, so load up and try again and you should get through it without a problem.

He took me three tries, just punish him after he does his jumping attackI know that stratagy works because I got pwned by the hyena after him and had to do it a second time lol

I had problems with the hunger thing too. Don't be afraid to be overly aggressive; he's not going to kill you in one swipe if you attack longer than you should. Starvation is the biggest risk to your health.
