Titanfall is a great shooter. The game play is well balanced and most importantly it is fun. The shooter genre has become fairly stale as of late with constant BF and COD releases of basically the same game year after year. It is nice to see something new. The movement in titanfall I believe is what sets it apart, while other shooters like Halo have futuristic settings, I would argue besides "power jumping" the movements is basic. In titanfall moving is strategic and takes practice. Its not just a give me part of the game, if you mess up you might die because you will be caught out in the open to long.
The game has only a few weapons, at least for each category of primary, secondary, ordinance, titan primary, which I find to be refreshing. There are also only a few perks to choose between. So if your looking for a large table list like in COD you will be disappointed. However I like this surprisingly because it keeps the game really level and based more on skill than having the right 3-5 perks to counter your opponents.
Where titanfall really shines is the flow of titan and pilot combat. The combat has been really balanced making the game fair for what you have at the moment. Titans are not invincible, if your get reckless your titan can be taken out within 3-5 seconds.
The maps are also very well done. I was worried when I heard only twelve players at a time would be on a map. But now that I have played I never had a hard time finding someone to shoot at. The inclusion of AI grunts on the map also I thought might be a problem but it is not and in fact gives the battle a more realistic feel. Players are easy to distinguish from AI due to their different types of movement. The auto turrets and zip lines on the battlefield really help close the gaps for infantry in case 6 titans are fighting in the street.
The campaign is fine, not really meant to get you deeply involved, it is more like a news report so you understand a bit of the stories and maps backgrounds. If you want a campaign shooters this is not the game for you. If you want an online only multiplayer shooter that kill keep you on the edge of your seat then this is the game for you.
Titanfall has made me excited to play the shooter genre again.
