Together with the Immortal throne expansion pack, the best diablo-like game to date...

User Rating: 9.5 | Titan Quest PC
Titan quest is a hack and slash diablo clone with an isometric view and mythologic settings in greece, egypt, far east and in the greek underworld. Do not be fooled by the clone status, in fact this game is as good as Diablo, if not better. The game mechanics and combat system, the mythologic setting and of course great graphics make this a superior game, although diablo was the first and in some ways, like the movie sequences, better game.

Graphics 9/10
The is not much to say about the graphics other than they are great for the year 2006 when the game was made. The monsters are nicely done, fun to look at and are varied - with the exception of satyrs from the starting greece setting. The ennvironment is great -wheat flutters when you run past, grass bends when you call in a storm with winds, monster get hurled away when hit by powerful spells. Although the greece and especially egypt settings can get repetive, the far east is pretty varied - babylon, the silk road, china. Perhaps the one thing I miss are more interactive environments, more things to break apart from those who contain loot, more permanent effects on environment like burned floors, etc.

Sound 8/10
Spell effects are great, but the music is not at all interesting, still it changes from environment to environment and does not get in your way or gets repetitive. Still it won't be something you remember the game by.

Story 6/10
Ok, the story is probably the worst part of the game. While for example Diablo 2 had you midly interested in the story through cinematic sequences after each chapter, Titan quest fails to deliver these. All you get are a few words to welcome you from some person, which you can actually skip and run right past most of the time. The story in itself is not bad - lesser titans named telkines have returned to the world and seek to block gods access to the world and free the most powerful, albeit imprisoned, titan. The expansion pack pits you agains Hades, who has not left with the rest of the gods and instead seeks to dominate the world of men. The problem with the story is, it is not put to your righly, it is put though boring dialogues which a lot time doesn't even refer to the actual plot, you can skip reading them since you got only one way to go anyhow.

Gameplay 10/10
Combat is fluid, fun and engaging. In my humble opinion the combat is more fluid (if you machine can handle the framerate) than Diablo and that is what ultimately makes a good game in this genre.
The skills are many and are varied and all can be used to accomplish the task (at least at normal difficulty), your character can choose 2 from 9 (including the expansion) different skill schools which amouth to 36 different character classes! which can all be played differently.
Before you install the expansion pack however gameplay has a few problems, for example inventory management. But the expansion not only offers some help in these points, but also improves the game by adding different types of items which you can collect thoughout the whole game not only in the new chapter.

Replayability 10/10
As I said, 36 classes, fluid combat, perfect environment setting with which you can rely to, 3 difficulties with special bosses in the higher two! All these thing amouth to great replay value.

Overall a very solid game which has a few flaws, but nothing is perfect. The best diablo clone ever, which, in my opinion, slightly surpasses the original overall and in gameplay, while lacks its interestingly put story.
