Slice'n Dice Without Much Spice

What this game attempts to be is something that I am very fond of. I like hack 'n slash games. I like grinding through level ups and scavenging for items while exploring caves and dungeons. However, this game seems to be unable to really draw me into the gameplay.

First off, the graphics are really good... sort of. The backgrounds look very good, and the spell effects are ok, but the avatar looks very uninspired. The tunic you wear looks more like an ancient greek bathrobe than battle gear, and the weapons look somewhat fisher-price-like.

The gameplay is good. The controls are not the greatest however, and since you use the mouse for movement, it seems odd to me that such a simple interface could be so imperfect. Movement using the hold-mouse-button only really works well when you are fully zoomed out. This is only annoying if you want to really appreciate the nice graphics and zoom in much of the time. If you try to move around while zoomed in, it makes you feel as if your mouse is having a seizure as your avatar spazs out in all directions but the one you want to go in. Not much fun, since the game involves a LOT of moving around.

Monsters and items are of a good variety, which redeem the package a fair amount. Enough to drag you in for a week or so of play. In the long run though, the game gets boring before the story is even over. Add on top of that the problems I had with the game crashing even while on lower settings, with up to date drivers, a GeForce 8500GT vid card, and all up to date patches, and this game gets a thumbs down.
