- The Bottom Line:
- "Great multiplayer"
Timesplitters future perfect is the third installment in the succesful timesplitters series. The second game is one of the best games ever and while Future perfect isn't up to that standard it is still well worth a purchase.
Timesplitters future perfect's story follows directly on from the end of timesplitters 2. Sgt Cortez has got the time crystals and is returning to earth with them. However he is shot down by timesplitters who have invaded earth. The firs tlevel is out about getting the time crystals back to base. If you think that means stealth mission you'd be wrong. It's not exactly run and gun but the word stealth never comes into it. The first level like the rest of the game is a great example of how a third person shooter should work. It has exactly the right mix of gameplay elements and just he right amount of enemies. The rest of the games story is about travelling through time following a mysterious time traveller and eventually destoying the timesplitters before they were created thus saving earth. Visually the game isn't the best for it's time but it holds up well and can't really be knocked. The voice acting is once again superb and full of witty humour and great lines. An assortment of guns are at your disposal throughout and there are 3 difficulty levels to try out on all 13 levels. You may think the single player sounds great and it is but that's not even the best part of the game. The multiplayer is.
Fun and frenetic multiplayer makes it and instant hit. One to four players can battle each other or up to ten bots in large variety of game modes on a good selection of maps themed around the story. There are some maps that are completely mad eup and these turn out to be the best. The maps are wacky things such as a UFO base and a circus. All the single player guns are in and so are other 130 characters. Some based on the sory and many more that aren't. Each one is even wackier then the maps such as a Gingerbread man and a Calamari.
It's not only arcade custom though. There's something called arcade league. It's a collection of pre designed arcade matches in which you must complete goals for example reach so many kills, hold the bag for a certain amount of time etc. If you complete them you unlcok new characters and maps. Chaalenges are also in the game. These are not set in the arcade but instead are random and often strange tasks such as throwing bricks through windows within a time limit. Thet also unlock characters and maps.
With so much to do Future perfect never gets old and you'll keep coming back for more arcade action time and time again. A true great of the playstation era. The fact that it's not as good as it's predecessor is nothing more then testament to how great timesplitters 2 was.
Score=93%
