TimeShift is a completely average, though still competent, first-person shooter.

The current generation of consoles has seen a remarkable amount of first-person shooters, and while quite a few of them are excellent, most of them feel rather average and uneventful. TimeShift is one of the games that ultimately falls into the latter category, although that's not to say that this is a bad game by any stretch - I had a lot of fun playing through TimeShift, and while I did notice quite a few flaws, this is easily recommendable to die-hard FPS fans. More casual fans of the genre can definitely pass on this one, but the game is still polished and well-made enough to satisfy most shooter enthusiasts.

At its core, TimeShift is an average first-person shooter with a gimmick. In this game you have the ability to manipulate time, which can lead to quite a few advantages in combat and puzzle-solving. The core gameplay is completely run-of-the-mill and occasionally a bit boring, but this 'timeshifting' ability does help keep the game interesting throughout its entire ten-hour duration. The linear level design, tedious puzzles (which are quite basic and seem to do nothing more than add a disjointed feeling to the experience), uninteresting story, and very generic combat keep TimeShift from feeling like anything special, but the game is not broken by any stretch. All in all, this is a decent way to kill a weekend if you don't go in expecting a revolutionary gaming revelation.
