I am the Pumpkin King Jack! No, in this literally you are.

User Rating: 8 | Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: Boogy no Gyakushuu PS2
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge is an RPG Horror Action Adventure Game from Capcom and Buena Vista Games. The game is based on the culturally celebrated and award-winning animation classic: The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton (as you've guessed)! The game picks up where the movie "Nightmare" left off. You are Jack Skellington, and wheras Oogie Boogie was destroyed in the feature-film, the mischevious workers of Oogie Boogie: Lock, Shock and Barrel have re-built him to cause more chaotic troubling mayhem around Halloweentown. Oogie Boogie has booby-trapped the whole centre of Halloweentown, and has created ghosts to block Jack and his friends to enter anywhere. It is up to to play as one of Disney's most iconic characters: Pumpkin King Jack Skellington and defeat Lock, Shock and Barrel, and get rid of Oogie Boogie's booby-trapping schemes, and, most importantly of all, defeat Oogie himself!

In the storyline department, the story is quite bland and predictable, and you knew that the plot would go down that route. Despite the plot falling on the way-side of things, the story is just what you would except from the shadow of The Nightmare Before Christmas film.

The gameplay is very much Devil May Cry entisises the mood and look of the beloved film. It has all the striking simalarities to the Devil May Cry franchise, here's the list:

A) Musical Combat and Fight/Boss Battle Sequences- Devil May Cry
B) Weapon and/or items to help you on your adventure- Devil May Cry
C) Ranked Combo, Damage, and Collectiable Items- Devil May Cry
D) Non-moving camrea- Devil May Cry
E) Change character styles- e.g; Dante to Demon Dante- Devil May Cry

But, here are the list of differences:

A) The Musical Fight/Boss Battle and Combat Sequences are traditional Nightmare Before Christmas songs from the movie, instead of the punk and rock music style in Devil May Cry.
B) You very much only have one weapon which is the Soul Robber; and it is not a gun like in Devil May Cry, and the Soul Robber helps you to reach certain heights, unlike the weapons in Devil May Cry.
C) The ranking system only ranks how much damage you make from your combos, and how much souls you collect in one chapter. Wheras, Devil May Cry ranks on a more wider variety of gameplay uses.
D) The character switching form only switches to certain costumes from the movie- Normal Jack- to Halloween Jack- to Sandy Claws Jack.
E) The voice not only says "are you ready"?, when you've charged up your Soul Robber for certain events, but it also says the combo you're making like: "Spine-Tingling".

Despite the gameplay simalarites, the gameplay is dead fun and the Soul Robber is actually useful to get to new areas in the game.

The songs are really nicely performed, and are pretty much identical to the lyrics and tune of the movie. The songs will immensly please fans of the movie, like I, and both the gameplay and songs go the great lengths like you are playing the movie yourself.

One thing I really enjoyed from the whole Pumpkin King Jack scenario, is the little extras, you collect whilst playing the game, like collecting the little action figures of the characters from the film in the game. These extras are a really nice touch and makes the game really worth playing.

The action figures, the graphics on look even nicer than the graphics of the main protaginists in the game!

In conclusion, Oogie's Revenge is the almost-perfect title to the Nightmare Before Christmas brand, a game that know the meaning: "spirit from a movie" like no other game, and generic, but still highly fun gameplay.
