A good game for younger gamers interested in the genre.

Threads of Fate is a game that I think younger gamers will enjoy most, mainly because of its light-hearted story and simplistic gameplay. You can choose to play as one of two characters, Rue or Mint, but you will probably end up playing with both of them to better understand the plot and because each adventure only lasts approximately 5-7 hours. The two characters are fairly different, both in personality and gameplay-wise. Rue is a noble and kind young boy looking for a way to bring back his best friend. Mint is a selfish brat who is only trying to become the ruler of her kingdom. The plot introduces a few more characters and makes a couple of twists and turns as you make your way through it. All the action in this game is handled in real-time. Rue has a large weapon that he can use in two ways: horizontally and vertically. It's pretty simple, but he can also transform into enemies he's defeated (not including bosses). They each have their own attacks, as well, but you will rarely use them unless there is an obstacle that recquires one of the creatures' unique techniques (i.e. fire breath to melt a large chunk of ice in your path). Mint's primary attacks are similar to Rue's, but she has the ability to use magic instead of transforming into enemies. Unlike other RPGs, there isn't a world map to traverse. You stay in a primary town, and choose from a list of places to go to at the gate. The graphics in the game won't amaze, but they are vibrant and colorful. There aren't any CG cinemas (you would think Square, of all developers, would include CG), but the real-time cutscenes get the job done. The audio in the game gets the job done, but, like the graphics, won't amaze anyone. Overall, this is a solid title that is worth a rental for RPG fans, but is mainly suited for younger gamers.
