Thief

User Rating: 8 | Thief PS3
As a longtime fan of the original series, the reboot of Thief is everything I could have hoped for as a "modern" adaptation of Garrett's story. The look and feel is almost exactly the same considering the obvious technical upgrades that have occurred since the PC versions were released long ago. It is very difficult to explain, but the storyline and the dialogue is very much like the original: cheesy but compelling. Honestly, I was not playing those older versions for the graphics, the story, or the battle. It was enrormous fun to plan each level, and sometimes sit for "minutes" to witness the paths and frequency of which guards would follow. Many of the complaints about this game are from those with little patience to actually conduct themselves in this manner while playing, and would rather load up on arrows and blackjack upgrades to wage all-out war. Sure, one can do this, but leaving everyone standing at the end of each level as Garrett sweeps about from corner to corner is incredibly satisfying. It is how the game is truly played. The developers have done a near-perfect job of giving us fans a high-powered update. To those who haven't had the chance to play the "outdated" versions that pioneered the series, pick up a copy and play through them. You'll understand why the die-hards here are so happy. Lastly, I hope the "user reviews" and comment sections of the main websites will prove to be a better assessment of the quality one gets with this game. Granted, it doesn't have the "open world" appeal of GTAV, or the excitement of a Call of Duty rampage, but it has a great deal of enjoyment to offer. In my opinion, that is exactly what sets it apart from those other gaming experiences. Well done, Square Enix! I'll hope for another one in the future.
