Quite enjoyable

To describe Thief in one word, I would have to say gratifying. After a number of failed attempts to steal everything from under a guards nose and you finally succeed is quite gratifying. I think the big complaint that a lot of reviewers have had is that the city is not open world. Personally I am more then ok with that. I don't want every game to be a 50+/- hour grind of exploration over a vast expanse. I never had expectations of there being a free roaming city for me to explore. While the levels are relatively small and linear they are still fun and challenging. On hard at least and trying not to be seen or killing anyone. But that is the great fun of thief that I enjoy. As the title suggest, you are a thief and you are trying to steal as much as you can as quietly as you can. In my opinion the game achieves this excellently. Loading screens are a bit of a let down but not a deal killer. Maybe since I've been a hardcore gamer since the mid 80's I am a little more used to and forgiving of loading screens. They are just another part of playing a game. Would I prefer not to have them? Yes, absolutely! Do they ruin a gaming experience for me? No absolutely not, provided the game is enjoyable so that while it is loading I am excited to see what's on the other side. The only real complaint that I have is that this doesn't feel like a next gen title, if that makes any sense. If I didn't know that I had a PS4 controller in my hand I would say that I am playing on my PS3. It just feels like a direct port to me, nothing really next gen. LIke when you're excited for a game coming from console to PC and you can't wait to see the visual fidelity brought out with a good PC. Only to be let down by lack of customization and a locked framerate. That's just the feeling I get from it. Maybe it's just the lack of color and the dark tone of the game. If you are looking for a game that challenges you to not kill everything in sight but at the same time steal everything in sight you should definitley give Thief a try. It's a fun and refreshing break from the massivity of other titles.
