While an ok game in itself, if it's WW2 strategy you want, you might as well buy Company of Heros

User Rating: 7 | Theatre of War PC
Theater of war does have one thing going for it- the scale. There's probably hundreds of different units, and the maps are gigantic. It can be very satisfying to see your tanks rush over the enemy's trenches, crushing the soldiers beneath, or to make a desperate last stand against waves of enemy armor. The basis for this game is solid, but the execution is sloppily done. This is probably the most user-unfriendly (3D) game that i've ever played. the interface is cluttered, and the manual makes it unclear as to how to utilize the game's many features. Control-wise, this game is also lacking. The awkward camra angles are hard to get used to, and you must use the WASD keys to move the camera (which annoys me so much). The sound is also terrible, with bombastic orchestra music and weak gunshots. It is also surprisingly hard for this game to run on my computer, considering the dated graphics, one would wonder why there is constant lag in larger confrontations, why it takes 10 minutes to load a mission, and why it takes so long to quit after you exit to your desktop.

Overall, i'd say try this game if you are really into the weapons of WW2, or if you find it in a garage sale for under $10.
