The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Video Review

If this game had some optimisation with the graphics so it didn't feel so sluggish a lot of the time especially in menus and things, I think this would be up in my top five games. The Witcher being up there as well.

What they need to do for 3 is forget about making the graphics more advanced and make the game feel like it actually works properly. So dissapointed at how this one feels.

The story and overall game play is still fantastic though. Fingers crossed for 3.

got bored after 3hrs of gamplay nad to think iv finished the first one 3 times..im realy dissapointed with this one

The Witcher 2 sold 1.7 million copies on PC and 0.5 million on XBOX 360 . The hating comments toward PC community in comment section proved to be wrong .

Prologue needs to be skippable.

as close as a game has been to perfection in a while this game is incredible if u haven't played it pick it up only complaint is it's to short thirty hours in this world is just not enough though replay value is high.

I just started playing through this game for the second time and I thought I'd check out the review.  I think that last line says it all, you'll find yourself coming back to be part of a world you never wished to leave in the first place.  It's an astonishing game with a great story, and IMO the best graphics I've ever seen in a video game.  Crysis may technically outmatch it with mods (idk I'm no expert in tesselation, trilinear filtering, anti-aliasing, etc) but at first glance I don't think there's even a question as to which game looks better.  Again, just MO, take it or leave it.

@zhaffy You can criticize EA all you want and you may have not liked the me3 ending but to say that the people at bioware are not passionate about the games they make is absurd.

Apart from Bethesda Softworks, CD Projekt Is my favourite studio. They are really passionate about what they do, and are also not greedy like some other studios. (Biow-- *cough*)

The PC version is getting all this content in a free update, comes with the soundtrack, remodelled for 360 not just ported. Now that's what I?m talking about. CDProjekt > Capcom +EA. NO DLC Locked away here! Come on guys lets show our support. I?m pre ordering this.

It will be a huge mistake to compare this unique game even with other RPGs. Why? Since, this game like the first one, has a unique style and ambience on its own. I had played the first game. From its music to combat, everything made you feel like something unusual. I beat that game. Fell in love with Triss Merigold. Years passed. The second game announced.I was hoping the sequel would be much better and realistic than the first game. Like i predicted that the first game will rock, same thing happened in the second game as well. The biggest development was entirely new combat system which you can possibly do every move without button mashing. The other was much more realistic, reallife-like characters designed. Triss became a lot more sexier than in the first game while Geralt became more wicked. Currently im at the beginning of chapter 3 sided with Iorveth. The sequel has the most vivid colors you have ever seen. Everything is alive. By the way, i am so excited have to finish this game and clear my name.

If every game studio creates there games with so much love and care as CD Project Red, there would be no bad games at all!

@williebazerka Satirically enough, mate, since I wrote my previous comments, I've went back to the game to try it again after I heard that version or update 2.0 adds a totally new tiny mini-chapter of tutorial gameplay, and I really did appreciate that tutorial a LOT. It helped get through those minimal basics to defeat some enemies in medium difficulty and understand how easy it can be to brew my first potion, and I actually managed to finish the game and loved it. Hehe! ^^ It even went further than that; I also never could imagined myself playing The Witcher 1, because the graphics are just way too outdated for my taste, but along the lines of importing Mass Effect 1 savegame into ME2, I wanted to see what would happen if I tried the same with The Witcher. I dragged myself through the first few hours of The Witcher 1, and it actually became very interesting after a couple of chapters, and I was able to finish it too! But it was a very, very, very long game! Fairly worth playing today, though.

@yasso - My experience was very similar to yours.It literally took me hours to get past the very beginning but once I did I seemed to have the combat down.I felt lost and tried to play the first Witcher but absolutely hated it so I stopped.I am going to try and play the Witcher 2 because of all the positive responses.The game is beautiful on my pc on medium settings and I'm excited to ty it out again.

Continuing on my previous comment regarding my experience during the very first hour with this game, I'm sad to say all this, because I wish I could share all the love & passion countless people have for this game. I just hope that the developers read me and take my feedback at heart; I'm NOT asking developers to "dumb down" or "consolize" their games, heck no, but definitely do something to minimize that intimidating, overwhelming feeling from the very first hour!

This game is obviously great; I agree with Kevin's review almost word for word. But in my case, it was really way too intimidating from the first few minutes! There is obvious great storytelling there, but I had NO idea what the heck is going on. I didn't play The Witcher 1, and frankly, I don't think I HAVE to play part 1 of any game to understand what's going on around me at least on a basic level in the second part of the game; I didn't have that when I tried The Witcher 2. As much as I admired the storytelling, the voice acting, the details, as much as I felt completely lost..like, what the heck's going on around me, who are these people, who are those names mentioned here and there?! And the intimidation didn't stop at the story level, it went on to get even in the gameplay...the combat was very different from everything else I tried before, and it was ridiculous to see myself pathetically getting beaten by my very first enemy! And mind you, I'm an avid gamer and frequently try to beat games at the hardest difficult if possible (I did that with Mass Effect, for example, but not Dragon Age) or at least the medium level; I still felt really weird not being able to grasp the combat to defeat my very first enemy! And the intimidation continued further! All these unique systems, the crafting, the things I don't even remember...eventually it just got too much, and I couldn't drag myself through the learning curve to play it more than one hour.

I really wish this I could play this on the ps3, I can't afford a pc that can run this right now.

Just read in Game Informer #223 that this is coming to the Xbox 360 with all patches and DLC's included. No way my prehistoric PC could run this so I'm as happy as Cookie Monster at the Keebler elves secret hideout LOL. Can't hardly wait.

Some of those problems maybe be already solved :P... 30 U$S sounds pretty sweet then.

Not only is this game great, but the devs also really know how to cater to fans. No stupid 2 hour, $10 DLCs! All updates have been free and there have been some pretty big updates.

Just finished my second playthrough and was blown away by how my decisions gave me a completely different experience. This really is the daddy of RPGs.

This > Dragon Age: Origin, I don't need to mention Dragon Age 2... I wish BioWare and Obsidian would learn from these European developers, because this is how you design a game, this is how your choices make a difference, not the cesspool they have been creating recently. CD project is what BioWare was, and what Chris Avalone and his team could be. :)

I've played a lot of games this year, none of them better than this.
