Less, yet more

If you have only played the third installment and are wondering if you should check out this one, the answer is "definitely yes". Graphics-wise, the difference is not that great, the mechanics are more or less the same, but the story is much, much better: it is tight and engaging, with hardly any boring filler that the next game has so much of, and centered on politics rather than otherworldly stuff like the Wild Hunt and the Elder Blood. I guess a limited budget can be a good thing: it forces you to discard all but the best ideas. Not that I liked all the ideas in this game, but one thing I can't accuse it of is wasting my time in a major way. The downside is a small world and much less additional content (the monster contracts can be counted on the fingers of one hand), but there is still plenty of variety. You get to play as different characters, there are a few stealth missions, the boss fights are great, and, like the next game, your choices heavily influence the story. The sex scenes are much better, too. The game's biggest flaws are poor navigation and inventory management, and not enough auto-saves.
