Warriors.....Come out and plaaaayyyyyy!!!!! A beat-em up game that takes it to the streets

User Rating: 8.3 | The Warriors XBOX
The Warriors is a game, made by Rockstar, that is based on the movie that came out in 1979. Rockstar seems to be the perfect candidate for this game because of all of the violence they are known for.

New York, more specifically Coney Island, is the home to the Warriors. The story focuses on all of the gangs in New York coming together and forming one huge gang to fight against 'The Man'. In this case 'The Man' is the police. I like the way the story was told in this game. The beginning of the game is when all of the gangs are all together listening to the mastermind, Cyrus. Cyrus is shot and everyone thinks that the Warriors had something to do with it. After the first cut scence you go back months before the meeting and you see how things played out before that point.

Most people aren't really looking for stellar gameplay when it comes to beat-em up games. Trust me you won't be getting stellar gameplay in this game either. But you will notice that you won't constantly be button mashing. The fighting combinations are very easy to learn and use. There is the basic punch, kick and grapple moves. Plus the best part is that there is more than just fighting in the game. The left analog stick is used for many things such as mugging innocent people on the streets, stealing car radios and also trying to escape from the police when they are about to apply handcuffs.

The graphics are what you would expect coming from the Xbox. Rockstar did an unbelievable job of making the characters look exactly the same. There were also some locations in the game that I could really recognize from the movie. The animations were very nice when a member pulled off a specialty move, but after a while they start to became quiet repetitive. One thing which I thought was different was when one of the Warriors would get really beat up and in the cut scene the character would still have the cuts and blood all over his body.

The voice acting was enjoyable because the cut scenes made me feel like I was watching the movie. It was pretty cool to hear the slang that was used back then. The voices also make the very believable.

There is some serious replay value in this game. This is a good thing because the story mode isn't very long. There is the main story mode. Even in the main story mode you are given the option of completing bonus missions. There is a Flashback story mode which lets you see how the Warriors became the Warriors. It takes you back to 1978 and lets you play as certain members of the gang to see how they joined. There is the Rumble mode where you are just wrecking fools. And finally you can go out to Coney Island and cause havoc. Plus there is multiplayer where you and another person can play the missions together.

Even though The Warriors doesn't have the deepest game play it still seems innovative. Out of all of the movies that have been turned into video games I think this is one of the best. If you want a game that is easy to pick up and play and is fun while being violent at the same time this is an easy choice.
