What a lackluster season!

User Rating: 7 | The Walking Dead: Season Two Episode 5 - No Going Back PS3

I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this review, and that's fine I'm asking for it, but I just can't get over how poor this season was, your probably wondering why I gave the past episodes such great grades then? I still stand by these grades but part of the reason they were so high was because I thought that they were leading to some epic conclusion to the season, and really none of them did, none of them had purpose and the moments that did try to have a little bit of purpose didn't go over well. Before I review this I have to talk about season one a little bit because this is important when it comes to defining what season two is as a whole. Let me start off by saying that season one was perfect, everything was just phenomenal perfect pacing, no throw away characters, A plot that has meaning to it, and many other attributes that melded the season together perfectly, The first season was just so memorable and well done while the second felt like it was on life support the whole time, look I'm not saying this is a bad season, but it just isn't even close to as good as the first season, look I understand it's hard to follow up things that are virtually perfect, but this just was a poor attempt if you ask me.

I will be talking about this episode's story first and then after this I will talk about the season as whole since this is obviously the final episode of the season.(Spoiler Alert) So the story starts where it left off from episode four in a gun fight between Arvo's group and your group, whats funny is somehow everyone found cover after the fact that everybody shot each other from point blank range. come on! Anyways after this your first big decision comes into play AJ is on the ground while bullets are being fired, you can either choose to go after him or not, this is a dumb decision would not go after the baby. Clementine retrieves the baby and while Luke try's to get her back to cover he gets shot in the leg, after some intense fighting Jane comes out of no where and kills one of the men to end the fight, however Arvo is still alive and the next question is what to do with Arvo maybe we should listen to the group and be nice to him, yeah we should be nice because he's young and didn't just bring his group to kill all of you! So Kenny suggests they just kill him, but Arvo says that he can give them supplies if they let him live So everyone figures since they are going that way they could check it out. This is where the important part of episode five is going, Jane is talking with Clementine and says pretty much the only reason she came back was because of her, this is whats wrong with season 2, is their anyone out their that thought that Jane was not coming, back come on not one person out their thought she was going to leave for good, they were literally forcing her down your throat this whole season so who in their right mind would think that she was leaving. Anyways... she also explains that Kenny is starting to lose it, well obviously he's lost his first family he's lost his other wife, what do you think he's going to be sane after all this? Jane is basically telling clementine just to watch him and be careful near him. After walking for a little while they find an abandoned power station, and decide to stay the night their since it is getting late and the group is tired, this is kind of the part of the episode where you want to try to get the group together and make everything nice towards each other, nothing really more there is not more plot progression in this part besides the fact that Kenny is somehow being an asshole to Arvo because he hit him because he was screaming and was trying to attract walkers, well excuse the hell out of Kenny. As they journey on Kenny is attacked by a walker and the walker is killed pretty easily by clementine or bonnie depending on how you react, the group hopes that more walkers didn't hear that. Well after this incident we finally find an unfinished house that Arvo was talking about however the only way to get to it is to cross the frozen lake. So the group decides to slowly walk over the ice, everything is going fine for a little bit until all of a sudden a group of walkers start heading your way, this is a huge problem because they are putting more weight onto the ice, as you near the end of the ice you notice that Luke is in between a rock and a hard place some of the ice has cracked around him and now it is time to make a big choice to go after him and try to save him which bonnie suggests which would be totally retarded or listen to what Luke has to say and let him try to get out of it himself which is obviously the smart decision which I clearly picked who would not pick this choice especially when that's what Luke tells you and wants you to do, unfortunately both choices end up with the same result, Luke will fall into the lake and if you stayed back Bonnie will go after you, there is still a chance to save them by busting the ice open, but either way Luke will die, but if you do bust the ice you can save Bonnie but at the risk of almost killing your self in the process because you end up falling in the water and dying of hypothermia, I just can't believe that they killed Luke of this way, Luke could of probably nearly been the main character in the game if the game tried clearly portrait him to be, which they did try to in some of the scenes in this season however they never went for that making him a confusing side character like Bonnie and Mike who really are just nothing more then side characters in the game, and because of this it makes his death feel tawdry like he wasn't an important character and oh well he's gone bye bye Luke, just why? Moving on, After this you get to this so called load of supplies in this house to find one can of beans.... *hand shaking* *face turning red* Commence Rant, if this F#$er doesn't deserve to die after all this s#$T your out of your God d@#ned mind I can not believe this s#$t he tried to kill the group, he got Luke killed, he led you on a wild goose chase, shoot this fu#$er and move on why is he still alive and believe me Kenny definitely wanted to but Jane, Bonnie, and Mike don't want to kill him, I can't take this anymore this is the group that is trying to be a better group then season one, their complete crap, and oh boy it gets worse just you wait, as Clementine warms herself up by the fire, and finally comes to her senses to help she gets more words from Jane on how Kenny is getting out of hand, do I even have to talk about this lets keep forcing this issue shall we! After this you go out to see Kenny to help him with the car he found, his big plan is to go to wellington which is basically a safe house, however the rest of the group wants to go back to Carvers old camp, either could be good but you don't really have a choice of which pick because Kenny is making all of the choices and is being a big prick about it, look I get it Kenny has always been this type of person, but come on this next scene wasn't necessary shall I explain? Before I do though I wanted to say that if you talk with Bonnie she will be completely done with you, you know why? Because you killed Luke you know I want to rant again so bad, so so bad but nope I'm not going to let this episode get the best of me, nope Let me ask you a question, who did exactly what Luke said not to do? Bonnie, (if you chose to do what bonnie said she wouldn't be angry at you so this is only for the people who chose not to listen to her) who tried to force you to do exactly what Luke said to not do? Bonnie who's f$%king fault is it? Bonnie, you are not going to blame this on Clementine, you are the one who killed Luke you dumb

b#$h. Look I get that Bonnie is upset over this and lets be honest she made it clear that she was basically in love with Luke, but to blame someone that basically turned you around for the better in episode 3 and made you completely welcome with the rest of the group makes the anger feel forced! You are going to keep hearing that word so get used to it. After this the group goes to sleep, Clementine wakes up in the middle of the night to see Arvo, Mike and Bonnie taking the car and leaving the group *facepalm* what's their to say? Has this whole group meant nothing to them? And I know you can argue but they did this because Kenny was going to make them go to Wellington, well if that's true then why didn't they ask Clementine to go along or Jane then? I could understand that they wouldn't ask Clementine because she is close with Kenny but Jane isn't but technically she's close with Clementine but they could of at least mentioned and that way this big moment of their would be... well you know, the big f word, This brings you to another big decision you can actually go with them if you choose too it has no consequence either way making it a worthless decision, but anyways during this confrontation Arvo will end up shooting clementine by mistake cause he was scared right? Do I really need to go over the same thing again, no this guy completely deserves to get away with what he has done, but anyways this brings you back to a completely worthless flashback that's really nothing but fan service and the only reason it's put up here is to try and explain the ending better which didn't need to be said, I just can't believe this episode, bringing season one into this garbage. After this you wake up to a fighting Jane and Kenny driving the car to find Mike, Bonnie, and Arvo, who actually ran on foot to get away, what? Why would they not take the car? What did they have a change of heart? Anyways, they are in the middle of a snow storm and Kenny stops the car abruptly because he nearly hits a stationary car, They make a plan to get more diesel and if something goes wrong they will meed up at the rest area near their Jane says that they should just leave Kenny out their but Clementine doesn't agree, and after this their our gun shots heard, and walkers are heading towards the car so Jane tells Clementine to get them out of where the walkers, are Clementine does but ends up running into one, and now Jane and clementine must meet up at the resting spot, Clementine notices that Jane is not holding AJ, and Jane tells Clementine that Kenny's true side is going to come out now, After this Kenny comes in through the door sees that Jane does not have AJ starts panicking and starts attacking Jane both get into a huge altercation and its up to you to break it up, it starts getting really serious to the point of you having to break fight up by letting either Kenny kill Jane or you shooting Kenny to stop from killing Jane, I just don't get this I don't know this gets me infuriated on how they decided to end the climax to this season, lets be honest Kenny has always been a hot head but the way they executed this ending was flat out dumb, this ending was only here to have an ending to be there, the way they tried to convince us all that Kenny was turning into to carver was the most absurd idea In this convoluted story, if they were going to try to convince us of this for one they could of started by not meeting and killing Carver off in one episode!(Sure you can argue we met Carver in episode two but we didn't get to actually know who he was) and second make it compelling don't just throw this in obliviously, during a time in the story where it doesn't feel like its important, and thirdly when you do throw it into the story don't perpetuate it into the story like it's nothing important, make us believe it's important, by actually showing us that he is going crazy, and not just by being a normal person who would feel angry after losing two of his family's after all of this, and that's why this is why I feel this ending is farcical. Well now we get to the ending you get basically up to five different outcomes I will start with the one I chose, I decided to kill Kenny, I honestly didn't know what to choose but I felt like Kenny was being unfair and Jane didn't deserve to die over it, so that's why I chose this decision, Kenny actually thanks you for killing him because he wanted to be with his family again, after this you come to find out that AJ was never in any danger at all, I can't believe this... nope not going to go on another rant, but anyways, you can actually shoot Jane and just leave, or just leave normally alone with the baby, or you can choose to still stay with Jane I know this is crazy but I decided to stay with Jane because lets be honest she was the main character in this game, the game was wanting you to join up with her, after this you go back to carvers camp your final choice is to let a family in with their starving child or turn them away I chose to let them in because maybe they could help us, but I don't know now the dad had a gun this might have been a bad decision, if you leave them out their you know they are going to be coming back, but if they do it's going to be in season 3. If you choose Kenny, he will kill Jane, this is actually the better ending, if you ask me don't get me wrong Jane didn't deserve to die, but Kenny will take you to wellington to find out that they are full of people Kenny begs them, to take only AJ and Clementine, They agree but now it's your time to either stay with Kenny or stay at wellington, this is a really hard decision and either one will effect season three I'm sure, you can also shoot Kenny or walk away from him after killing Jane it will be the same ending as it was if you did the same thing to Jane, The endings aren't terrible, but too bad what was followed from it was.

I know what you all are thinking if you didn't like this episode why did you give it a seven then? Because I love this series it hurts me to even talk bad about this series, but they just didn't get this season right and that's why this episode in my opinion hurt so much, Here our some of my big gripes with this season Where the hell are the zombies, part of the thing that made season one so great was the feeling that things were hopeless and their were no way you were going to live when their were walkers everywhere, but in this season it seemed like they were non existent, in fact most of the people were more dangerous in this season then actual walkers, and I know that is a big area in this type of environment, but their should be a balance of both, The fact that the zombies were basically no threat at all in this season(with only a couple of scenes that could have been avoided if the people were smarter in it) crippled this season enough. Another bad thing was over hyping Carver and then killing him in one episode I don't understand this, we have seen much more crazier people in season one let alone the actual comics, this guy was no where as near as crazy as some of the people in the comics nor the game, and he only live basically one episode... one episode!!! Another thing are any of these characters memorable? Not really Luke was really the only one I was disappointed that died and Kenny and Jane were the only characters they truly cared about this season the rest were just their to be their, go on tell me one great moment Bonnie or Mike had huh? That's right their were none they were just their what purpose did they have in this story, and they were lucky to just of got this far. Where are they going to go after the ending also you know Kenny or Jane are going to have to die they can't make them go on forever because just like all the other characters who you save in one situation have to die in another one, so all that big climax is going to serve for nothing you just watch! I could go on and on but my review is getting pretty long just believe me when I say that this season could have been better, I know I will get a lot of hate for this review but I am a huge fan of this series and I just can't say that I am okay with this season, it's not terrible but it's far from great, I get season one was basically a masterpiece and hard to follow but they needed to try harder in this season. I know I got angry with this season but it angers me to see such lazy progression in a plot that didn't have any purpose, I don't think this season isn't worth buying but by God be patient with it, I know I might make some people angry, but if I didn't state my actual opinion of the game then whats the point of reviewing and having an opinion? Fact is I'm not going to like every single game everyone likes, and I'm not going to dislike every single game people like that's the glory of it aint it? But just know if I offended your opinion in this review I apologize, but that's just the way I feel about this game.

Overall I don't hate this season, but I'm just so disappointed with it, you can actually buy this on the ps4 for thirty buck this game is not worth that price wait till it goes down to twenty bucks and get it, the first season is thirty bucks also but at least you get the 400 days dlc and the fact it's amazing so I would say if your going to pay thirty get the first season.
