What it lacks in gameplay, it makes up for what most zombie games mostly fail at.

User Rating: 8 | The Walking Dead: Episode 1 - A New Day PS3
Story: The story follows Lee Everett, a former history teacher who has a dark past. While being escorted out of Atlanta via police cruiser, the car is then spun off the road by a zombie (or walker as they say) that police officer hit by mistake. Lee then wakes up in a ditch and sees the officer is unconscious. Lee then tries to free himself as the officer, turned into a walker then starts to attack him. Lee then is able to kill him, then he flees to a local neighborhood where he meets a little girl named Clementine. Seeing as he can't just leave her there he decides to watch out for her and they both set out to find out what is going on and more importantly try to survive the outbreak. As I said in the review deck "it makes up for in what most zombie games fail at" and this is it, the story is actually very well done. What makes the story so great is the interactions between all the different characters and learning about them. The relationships between everyone is what makes them feel more realistic and likable, if someone dies than you will probably feel bad about it. Now the best part of the story is the dialogue choices. Similar to Mass Effect or Dragon Age, you can decide what you want to say to people and the cool thing is that they will remember what you said and this could mean anything from them having your back to leaving you to die. The story has a lot of potential since this is only the first part of a planned five episode series. All in all while it may seem a little short, it is a great start to what is sure to be a great series.

Graphics: Since this is an arcade title it should be known that games like this don't have the power to create the most realistic graphics. Think about, most downloadable games that try to take a realistic approach usually don't look that good, so this game tries to take a more cartoonish look. Everything is all cell shaded and this was a good move, seeing as it wouldn't have the best raw power. The design for all the characters and the environments all look good enough and kind of a throw back to the comic series it is based off of. And unlike certain other zombie games *cough* *cough* Dead Rising and Dead Island *cough* this game has great voice acting! The only bad parts are that some of the animations like the faces and the walking aren't the greatest and like I said the raw power isn't really special and some people may hate the graphic design, but me personally really liked the design and they will get a good score.

Gameplay: Like I said before this game is lacking in gameplay, more or less. The main part of the gameplay is really just walking around and talking to people to learn about them and the interactions you have with them. The way you interact with them will change the direction of the story and along the way you will have some tough choices to make. I already mentioned this in the story section and now lets get onto the real gameplay, or the action sequences. First off lets start with the controls. They all work fine, and while you can't control the camera, it won't be much of a problem. Now from time to time you will have to encounter some action and the gameplay here is kind of hard to describe. the game is sort of like a point and click game so when a action sequence is in play then you need to drag the cursor over the certain area to preform the action. While this may seem simple, and it is, it is actually pretty well done and creates a good feeling of suspense and will keep you at the edge or your seat. So I guess the saying "less is more" works in the favor for this game, and works out pretty well.

Over all:

Story: 9 Something I have never seen in a zombie game, at least in my time, actual effort that is put into the story. Good work Telltale Games.

Graphics: 7.5 While the raw power and the animations aren't great, the design more than makes up for it.

Gameplay: 7.5 While rather simple, it is still fun and will create some tense moments.

Enjoyment: 8 While the game will only last about two hours, it has a low price of about $4.99 and with more episodes on the way, I can say that I really liked my time with this game and I can't wait for more.

Final Score: 8
