Simpsons Hit & Run is like a less violent GTA game with a Simpsons twist to it

User Rating: 8.5 | The Simpsons: Hit & Run PS2
Let's just say that this game is like a GTA, but isn't exactly one itself. Instead of just doing dirty deeds like the other GTAs and GTA clones, you just play without the work of crime. I mean sure you can kick and run down peds but they won't die. You can also cause property damage which adds to your Hit & Run Meter but in real life you couldn't aquire cash from a destroyed tree. But you can still get a kick from causing mayhem downtown in a Duff truck. Mostly this game is about just acting silly and reckless.

In the game there are 49 missions each divided into 7 levels. In each level you can play a different Simpson character such as Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, or Apu. Missions are based on driving in your car to places. Missions range from races to following cars, blowing up cars, driving away from cars, and collecting items. The plot revolves around a new cola 'with an ingredient too hot for the FDA' as Krusty quotes in a commercial. This cola becomes very popular yet the Simpsons are tracking it like a game in here. They realise that the cola causes mind-control by Kang and Kodos, who are using the cola as a 'stunts prop' for an intergalactic TV show focused on the stupid behaviour of human beings. Even though you stop Phase 1 of their plan (you destroy free laser gun stands in the Squidport burough), they unveil a new weapon, ZOMBIES!! Despite what you hear in Resident Evil and Dead Rising, these zombies don't attack you at all. You end the game by blowing up the alien's spaceship with nuclear waste from the power plant. However if you do just the story missions, you only got about 26% completed! You can buy extra outfits, compete in street races, destroy wasp cameras, collect trading cards featuring Simpson seasons clips, and buy bonus cars from Gil or other sellers.

The gameplay isn't that all great though. Example, if you tilt a car on its side, you can get out and leave it, wait for it to reposition on its wheels, or wait for automatic reset. In GTA if a car landed bad, it stayed like that until it exploded. also no one else can hurt you, there's no health.

Overall the game just gives you a sense of what GTA would be like. Also if you're a Simpsons freak, this is way better than Road Rage!
