We talk to producer and director Ragnar Tornquist about their new modern-day MMO Secret World at Gamescom 2010.
@voltron_80 TSW and AoC are actually being developed by different teams within FunCom. Most of the designers of TSW worked previously with Tornquist on Dreamfall.
@tommah1 They never mentioned anything about redistributing skill points, just that you'd have the option of changing your path by further investing in more skills etc.
Even with the differences in graphical quality that this interview had clips of (and unlike many games I've tracked on here) at no point have I seen a new video etc of TSW and been put off at all. I paused at first over the circle of effect shotgun, then realised that's one of the only ways that they can make guns like that work in aan RPG setting, and am pleased to say that I'll keep on tracking this game till release and after.
I am fine nice for do my board games, not much effort on the art, the programming is....not much for a art time to draw. I must to focus on create better art for my productions. I always came to the game web pages, witch have lots of perfect cool graphics, and oh fu.. i am not being able to keep up such quality.
No classes or levels, and a completely "open" skill based system. Sounds like a mix of a few games, which were all garbage. IE, Darkfall//CoH//Champions online. Thank you, but ill pass.
so all the factions hate each other and are at war but when there in london they go there to drink with each other and stuff like mates? so what is the point of his game now
Yet another MMO that is better off being a single-player experience - yeah I could be wrong, but I doubt it ;-) p.s. is it just me or does the interview always wear hats, and they're always a size or two, too big? Yeah i'm an ass, it's friday.
Fail Com, remember AoC? All the same hype, more in fact, great screenshots and great game website, and promises on top of promises,,and then AoC launched, wasn't good,,and they never hardly fixed anything for months and months. They took all their veteran talent that could have fixed AoC from the start making their customers happy faster,,but no they put them almost immeadiately on making 'the secret world' instead of fixing the game they just released... or so said an AoC GM pretty much said when I asked in game 5 months after launch why it was taking so long to fix guild and group issues issues in Conan. Even their main web site is overly sketchy with vague general corporate statements that sound like they're hoping to cater more towards dumb investors/ people who have never heard of PC games (read their corporate info) rather than building a fanbase of actual gamers. Sure The Secret World looks interesting (HP Lovecraft/ Clark Ashton Smith- esque), looks great in fact, but so did AoC. I hope I'm wrong,,but odds are this is going to be Fun Com's last hurrah, before going the way of Pop Cap style games,,or just defunct altogether.
RAGNAR! Thats is one of the most metal names ever... should be the lead singer of some Goulem vokills BM band...
Looks so lame, and i dont even play MMOs. I mean dont people usually start to play MMOs to get away from the real world? How can that guy say its cool with normal cloths in an MMO, its not! And Urban friggin landscape? London? OMG!!! FAIL!
Looks different, sounds different, but I'd need to try it to completely pass judgement... although I do find around 4:50 or so when he says "Friendly duel" while its showing concept art of the dude on the bottom right of the art is laying in a blood puddle cut in half entirely hilarious. Although I do like the 7 Active 7 Passive abilities... reminds me a bit of Guild Wars where you may have a ton of abilities but you can only have so many active at a time and available for use... but to have every ability available to every one that will be interesting. 8:45 - "You can wear a hoodie and sneakers and cast fireballs, thats awesome" Yes sir. Yes it is. :)
Don't like the looks, don't like the combat mechanics... it's not atractive, to succeed in the world of MMOs you have to present a product better than World of Warcraft (not just different) and even though I find WoW boring, this doesn't look any better...
Wow, I'm actually interested. That's unexpected - of course there are variables to descern whether or not this actually WILL be any good, but it's different and I like the modern approach...
ok,from reading the previous comments,i have come to a conclusion and want you guys to tell me if it is what i think it is.Ready ??? well,i have never played a ...well any other kind of game other then first person shooters online so,DO I HAVE TO PAY MONTHLY (excluding xbox live) TO PLAY RPG's OR MMO's ONLINE?????????????????!!!
it is mentioned for 360 but does that mean monthly subscrition because i already have to pay for xbox live and paying to play on top of that seems abit extreme when other console don't have to pay for online play.
is this just going to come out on p.c or are other formats in the working can someone answer me that please.
I had high hopes for this game, considering the topic and the current nature of information in society, it could of been (or still could be) a very dope concept to work with/around/upon. Not really liking the presentation though, the games looking....well terrible..........Hoping to see major improvements! ......hoping :/
He mentioned Guild Wars, i hope it is a no monthly fee model like that... otherwise I will 100% skip. Heck I'd pay $90 up front if there was no monthly fee on an MMO... and they can make option DLC like some extra missions, extra character slots, or some clothes or something to bring in extra revenue, but this game doesn't look like its worth $10 or $15 a month....
finally an MMO that isn't a loot-grind-achievement-fest. my favorite phrase "no levels and no classes, more skilled based."
I like the whole Neil Gaiman vibe and setting so i hope they don't **** it up. It could be kinda cool, like some kind of Demon's Souls set in modern times and an MMO
It's looks fairly decent. Not enough info to say more or less, but if it will unfold in a beautiful way, I don't see any reasons in not trying it out at least.
