Two developers from Funcom give an extensive presentation on a world of monsters and legends.
The idea is good. But I think the game still needs a lot of work. Granted even the guy hosting the video said it needed cleaning up. But I was expecting some more physics in this game from the get go. If your character gets nicked I'd like to see the damage just as much as the satisfaction we all want from decapitating one of those zombies. And if I remember correctly the very first introduction video I watched about this game I was told by the game designer that decapitation was something I could do. Not that I condone this violence. But as the designer said. Its "like" the real world. :P
i think they should work on the skill wheel it looks sorta complicated. well more so hard tonavigate
She really DOES have nice jeans. OPr am I even looking at the jeans? I just have to keep telling myself it's just a game and then I skip off to something else.
I've had interest in this game since the first time I heard about it. It is good to finally see some in-game footage and the environment graphics are awesome! Sadly, the good news stop there. I won't talk about skills and items or anything like that, I believe that those topics can still suffer a lot of changes during development and gameplay balancing stages. What I'm going to point out is that the most disappointing thing is the poor or non-existent physical reactions of the mobs or characters to physical impact. When you take the impact of a sledge hammer you are not transparent! Deducing HP and popping some fancy number above your head cannot be the whole result of fighting interactions!! I know that some of the physics are tied to the gameplay component, because if you keep getting beaten by a sledge hammer you would be on the floor all the time, but please, a compromise! a reaction! something! at least skid a little! Maybe they still plan to change that.. I really hope so, because it really is refreshing to see the weight of the story and lore behind this MMO.. I really didn't want to see this game fading into the background as so many other recent MMO's do...
A half naked stripper fighting zombies with a sledgehammer, shooting around fire and lightening ? This is a total joke. I was waiting for her to start dancing around the pole (her hammer) or start sucking someone's staff. Who needs armor when you can use makeup and scanty jeans. She just needs a pimp. This is some hybrid between the Witcher and Stripper Academy (awesome movie), both of which individually attract male audiences, but sometimes the whole is less than the sum of its parts. The whole thing look ridiculous.
The concept is nice, the gameplay sadly isn't. Melee fighting might aswell be called fly swatting as hits have no visual connection to the target. There is absolutely no way of telling what kind of role someone is filling (I mean the least they could do is give the tank a football uniform),all the spell effects when they buff up look the same, except for hell elemenetalist wich his are exactly the same, but red.I guess that's what you get when everyone can multi-specc on anything. And finnaly, none of the sounds made me believe those monsters were hit by a mallet or a fireball or got shot by a revolver or an assault rifle. On the other hand graphics are of high quality, ambient sound and enviromental effects sounds were very good, but unfortunately it seems to me that the game creates a great atmosphere with a great concept (I really love how they take every single urban legend, fairytail, myth etc and create something real out of it) but fails to put you into it. I know it's still to early and things are going to change, but if it's THAT early they should stick to teasers for the time being.
i get it when in a fantasy game a dude wearing full plate armor can tank against a 15 feet creature that hits like a truck but in this game people in shirts and jeans doing the same thing its kinda stupid.. so .. yeah.. pass
I love the idea and the concept, and I've been looking forward to this game for years, but I have to admit that this initial look bears some uncomfortable resemblances to City of Heroes... there's a hokiness to the combat and the characters that doesn't really do justice to the dark and sophisticated subject matter. Hopefully it will be getting some more polish before it's released, but a lot of these modern-day-setting MMOs have ended up being underwhelming, which is a shame.
Funcom makes quality games. I just wish they would put a working economy in one some day. This is not that day.
@Gelugon_baat Thanks! I was going crazy trying to remember the name. If you look at Majestic's review, the first sentence states, "The problem with innovation is that it all too easily becomes a crutch." I think Funcom needs to memo this review to its dev team.
Its the 21st century, what's she doing with a mallet? This isn't Orzhammar. Can't she be carrying a rifle or some modern weapon at least? And i hope the combat animation here is temporary, she can't be swinging that hammer and not hit those creatures, or is she hitting them? I can't tell.
How do we fool proof this game from the wowtard crowd? Rift was my 1st exp with this group and man I don't ever want to game with them again.
The game looks interesting, but I'll be reserving judgment until I read some reviews. After AoC's rough launch, and then Funcom's horrible balancing (read: destroying) of classes this won't be a release day purchase.
@Gelugon_baat I agree that an Internet search for loot is completely immersion breaking. How quick will that mechanic alone get boring? There was a pc game in the late 90's early 00's (forgot the name) similar to "The Game" film. It emailed and texted you at random intervals with hints about urban legend type puzzles. It, of course, bombed. I want to like this game so much, but Funcom is making it difficult.
Same old MMO mechanics. The environment gimmick could get boring after easily killing the 10th explosive plant, but this game has some potential. They gotta ditch the croquet mallets...lamest starting weapon idea ever. That is a ridiculous amount of skills, i'd like to see how thats implemented without bogging down players...unless most of those skills are just recycled.
Looks intresting, standard MMO combat may not hold a lot of players for long and there's big compition coming out from SWOTR and GW2. Was this filmed with a camera hidden in a hat? :p
Good to some new and less used ideas in an big budget MMO. The puzzle thing with real world crossover is quite intriguing... if it's not spoiled by online guides. Also loving the horizontal progression and moving while casting. Hopefully they get enough time to polish it before launch.
Graphics look hot. GUI is attractive and concise. Very much improved over the last demo. I'm excited.
@Zloth2 I don't think you understand. A tank is NECESSARY. This isn't the Holy Trinity however, but someone does HAVE TO hold down the boss in some way to actually successfully destroy it. Plus the fact you can't spec mid combat except through those Anima (Stations?) make it pretty necessary to have a person spec himself into Damage Mitigation and Aggro. However you aren't restricted to it either so, what he said isn't false.
ya, Age of conan was a great game once they fixed it. Most people that bash it just quit after the first month and assume it hasen't changed.
Yow! The graphics look a lot better than what I saw last time. The skill system sounds quite good, too, assuming they can balance that monster. We're EXPECTED to have a tank? That's not a good sign. Not a good sign at all. I'm sick to death of the tank/healer/DPS trinity. He said a lot about multiple ways to get through challenges - I sure hope that isn't an exception.
oh dear this is horrible. Im so sure this game will be a huge failure of the same size ac age og conan. good gameplay is alt-tabbing out, to search for stupid codes? gimme a break Failcom
I'm kind of dissapointed by the lack of impact during attacks, the hammer just clips through the monster and numbers start floating.. I do understand this is a work in progress, and I hope the implement some sort of impact animation during damage. But all in all the game looks great, I'm especially intersted in the puzzles, and the skill system.
Animations and level design look really good but gameplay seems boring. Same mmo without any life in it, i would like an mm so immersive that it will let you live in the virtual world, its just the same hack and slash with some strategy points.
Nice concept and ideas but in the end ... It seems as a traditional MMORPG which make it... Bleh. I really want to try Guild wars 2. This server X server fights if its true will shake the MMORPG community.
I can say i've been pleasantly surprised by how this game is comming through, after the last gameplay videos I was kinda worried but maybe it will be a great MMO after all. This is one of those games you want to be great because it has so much potential.
SP for skills is fine and the ability to have all 500 or so is quite nice.Tons of skills at my fingertips just waiting for me to set them.I like it. The environments are nice and everything looks great.I like the use of the environment, thats a pretty sweet idea. And this is just out one location, im curious of whats next. Ill be buying this day one for its lore, its real world investigating, and the freedom it entitles. Dragon all the way.
Skill wheel is pretty neat, and monster animations look good. Combat is prototypical MMO style. Will there be (friendly) towns and an economy? I need more than fighting to be fully immersed in a game.
