EA Sabotaged its Potential.

User Rating: 6.5 | The Saboteur X360
Every once in a while EA releases a game that just blows you away, and leaves you thinking "That was a masterpiece"; however, The Saboteur is not that game.

Set in Germany occupied France, the Saboteur follows the story of Scottsman Sean, who ends up right in the middle of the Nazi/rebel firefight. After his friend is murdered by a Nazi, Sean vows to seek revenge by blowing the freakin' Nazis to bits. This interested me for two reasons:
1. Takes place during WWII
2. Explosions.

Sadly, Electronic Arts failed to live up to any expectations I may have had. Instead, they took everything that could have been awesome about it and said "we don't need to make a good game, we have tonnes of those already!".

Sean does not feel natural to control, in fact, he is one of the most difficult characters to steer I have ever played. He basically has two speeds: Incredibly slow, and way-too-frigin-fast-to-turn-or-do-anything-besides-running-into-walls.

Throughout the game, there are many occasions in which you will be required to disguise yourself as a Nazi soldier. Though, you would probably be better off without the disguise. When incognito, the Nazis become suspicious very easily (You can see this by a little circle around your blip on the compass/radar), and if you walk too close to them, they use their magical powers of randomely identifying people wearing Nazi uniforms as "NOTzees" and begin shooting at you. You can't even run while disguised, as the tiny circle suddenly takes up 99% of your radar. Apparently Nazi soldiers weren't allowed to run; in fact, the only way to ensure you don't get recognised is by walking at the slowest rate possible.

You'll notice the objectives can be very annoying, especially since you have to drive for 20 minutes to get from one to another. They basically read like this: "Perform this task without being seen," but nearly all the objectives can only be completed while being "seen". There is zero stealth in a game that is meant to be entirely about stealth.

Driving in the game is fun (in fact it's probably the only fun experience in the game), as there is a wide selction of motor vehicles to steal, and stash in your garage. Though this be true, finding your next objective is difficult, due to the ridiculous labyrinth of road systems. You rarely know if the road you are on will take you to the right place, so you'll be forced to pause the game and check the map every five seconds.

Now the positives. The gameplay is not a good part of the game; that, my friends, is irony. The only things I actually enjoyed about The Saboteur is how fun the title is to say, the visuals, and the swing music that is played when you enter a vehicle. At first, all of the city is in greyscale (Except the primary colours (Red, and Blue (parenteses within parentheses? That's preposterous!)), which looks really cool) but as you complete objectives, you "inspire the resistance" and colour is restored.

In conclusion, The Saboteur has a fun title to say, looks good, but does not play well, and is not worth the money.
