Shotguns in the face of average licenced games

User Rating: 8.7 | The Punisher XBOX
I don't buy licenced games. They are intrinsically tacky and have next to no creativity and imagination applied to them.

But....

Occasionally a diamond gleams in the **** And this, is one such diamond, rough around the edges but cutting to the core.

Despite some half-assed attempt at censoring the one thing that The Punisher has that really carries it over the edge into greatness is violence.

Sheer, brutal, gorey, grim, edgy violence. And that violence is built from an age old romanticism for humans: poetic justice.

I loved every knife stuck throught the jaw of a drug dealer, every point blank shotgun round to the face of a mafioso henchman and every .50cal sniper shot to the exploding cranium of a terrorist. I didnt feel desensitised. I didnt go numb. I appreciated EVERY one as each carried a significance.

When a game like this makes you wonder what good a real life Punisher could do, and keeps you coming back for a 2nd and 3rd palythrough you know it has that magic X-Factor so often missing.

Guilty as charged. Welcome back Frank.
