The Mark of Kri is a decent game, but a bit lacking in fancy graphics.

The Mark of Kri is a fantasy adventure game. You get to play a Barbarian named Rau teaming up with his bird called Kazou. Toegether, they go on a journey to uncover the past of dark magic and so forth. The plot is quite complicated and hard to understand at first.

Rau gets to use a sword, and when you progress into challenging missions you get to use the bow & arrows, the staff, and the axe to fight enemies. You can use you bird Kazou as a trusty scout, to explore certain areas in the level, or to see how many enemies are there.

In combat, fighting against multiple opponents can be overwhelming, and the harder levels can be repetitive when playing it for the first time. I hardly call this game a "Beat-'em-up" type of thing despite possessing uniques melee combos. The best way to progress from one area to the next is heavily relied on using stealth. You can sneak up on enemies and break their necks or pull out your sword and stab them or decapitate them. So this game heavily relies on tactics and strategy. If you go into a fight against multiple opponents your chances of surviving is quite slim sometimes. I find it annoying when you are fighting the enemy is cornering himself by a wall made out of stone or wood, so when Rau is swinging wildly his sword or any other melee weapon he uses can bounce right off the wall or get stuck in wooden areas messing up your combinations. To avoid archers from constantly shooting at you while fighting or running away, try to shoot them down with your bow & arrows without them seeing you.

The graphics are not that fancy. The characters lack texture, but the backgrounds for the CG and gameplay are decent. It's best to rent the game first or get the game at a good budget price like I did because the game may not be for everyone. Overall the game is quite good.
