User Rating: 8.3 | The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King GBA
As someone who finished all five characters in the GBA Two Towers game, I was ready for lots more of the same. RoTK is based on almost an identical system as TT, but with far more detailed graphics and slightly different RPG elements. The sprites which represent the characters are all larger and more detailed, with more intricate and varied animations. However, there is a lot of frame slowdown when the water effects and translucency start to kick in. The ideas were all great, but something failed in the implementation, either asking the GBA to do too much or poor coding. The sound is much richer and more detailed than in TT, as well. The sound samples are well done with only minor amounts of static. The soundtrack from the movie is also present, which provides nice ambiance. Many of the movie characters are playable in this game, including the five from the prior one. While this creates a long of replay value, it is also the source of my biggest complaint with this game (which was present in TT, as well.) You only have 4 save slots. This would be more than enough if you had only one or two characters, and would be adequate if there were only 4 characters, but as it stands, if you want to play through the entire game with all of the characters, you'll end up losing some old save games. All-in-all, it's a great addition to your GBA library.
