Only play this if you're a fan of the book, not the movie.

User Rating: 5 | The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring PS2
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is one of the greatest movies of the last decade. The videogame for it however isn't anything special.

Gameplay, 5. Like any other action adventure game you have to guide your character from point A to B. Along the way you're going to see monsters and all that good stuff.
There are three characters you use: Frodo, Aragorn (called Strider in the game), and Gandalf. Frodo is generally pretty weak. He is small and doesn't hit very hard and attacks slowly. Aragorn on the other hand is much faster, stronger, and bigger with a better reach. He also has a bow and arrow to shoot monsters from a distance with. Gandalf also attacks faster than Frodo. He has a few magic spells up his sleeve too.
Since the game came out because of the movie you would think that it was based on the movie but it isn't. It's actually more true to the book. So if you think you're going to get a playable version of the movie, then think again.
Frodo is the only character not isn't any fun to play. This wouldn't hurt the gamplay very much if he wasn't the character you played the most with. You play as Aragorn plenty but not nearly as much as Frodo. Gandalf is the most fun character but you use him the least, and all your time playing with him will be around the Moria part of the game. Since Frodo is the character you play the most as he is the one that impacts the gameplay the most, which of course hurts the gameplay.

Graphics, 6. The graphics are okay, but they're fairly bland and ugly up close. Far away they look decent. The characters are all right looking, plently of polygons on them.

Sound, 6. The sound is all right. It's nothing special, but nothing bad. There are a few decent soundtracks in there.

Value, 5. The game is fairly short. The game should only take you 12-15 hours to beat. After that there isn't really anything left to do. If you want to you can beat it again but due to the medicore gameplay, graphics, and sound, why would you?

Difficulty, Just Right. The game's difficulty is fairly reasonable. You'll never feel like some monster is unbeatable or anything, even as crappy Frodo.

Tilt, 5. I didn't care all that much for this game. It was a huge disapointment and could have been done so much better. If you like the book, then you'll probably like this game. However, if you liked the movie, or didn't, or just looking for an action adventure game to play, then move on.
