The story of the relationship between Jackie and Jenny in the Darkness 2 really made the game worth it for me. If it wasn't for that, the dark humour and the fact that you're the goddamn spawn of the devil, it would just be yet another generic FPS
Well I say go love and partnership relationships. Say no to say sex...even more to yaoi...I just can't look at that even more than yuri by far. If your into that go ahead but not me.
So what the hell was the point of this video? You just wasted five minutes of my time and I want them back.
They're not forcing anything on anyone. They're merely giving you the option. If you don't like it, don't play or don't swing that way in the game.
2 Like @ronan32 It is an example of Bioware bringing real-life drama into a game. During the course of your life, you will be confronted with an unexpected romantic situation (Same or Opposite orientation), and it will force you to broaden your perspective; either exploring the possibility of you undiscovered interest in the person/situation, or finding your own way to handle rejecting them. Either way, being forced outside of your comfort zone adds spectacular dramatic value to any game with romance side quests. It is indeed part of the human Experience!
It seems there is much talk of homophobia in gaming these days, and if that is the case, I hope that some of those folks can obtain a bit of perspective on it and their own hang-ups in the safe setting of an immersive game like Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
@Mountain_Rugby @ronan32 are you saying we should be conditioned for homosexual advances, look i've nothing against homosexuals what they do in their spare time is their business i just don't like it being forced upon me.. I don't have to accept that..if it is forced upon someone then that is sexual harassment.

Bioware has included same-sex scenarios and your subsequent choice to ACCEPT or REJECT those advances as a means of making their romance storylines more diverse. I think it is an interesting move, and I certainly think it does no harm to gamers to be confronted with these situations within the confines of a game. It only stands to broaden the gamer's experience. I don't think anything is being forced upon you, but perhaps your character. In the aforementioned titles, you have the option to accept or reject them. Modern storytelling through games seeks to include as many different choices as possible, this is I think from the company's perspective, a wise one to include, as it is controversial, and ultimately realistic.
Same sex relationships to many degrees have existed as long as we have. In many places it is still kept secret and suppressed, while in others their openness is celebrated. I can definitely see your point though. It seems you feel the lack of a 'hetero-only' option within the game is what makes you feel uncomfortable. I wonder if there are gamers who feel the lack of a 'same-sex only' story arc is an equal injustice, though games have pretty much been 'hetero -only' for the last 30-odd years.
I think this kind of discussion will occur more and more in the coming years, it is good to talk about it!
@ronan32 lol its almost like they think anyone is up for a bit of same sex xD. I got nothing against homosexuality, I just find it weird how they play it out like its expected everyone is up for some of it. But I guess you can always choose not to.

It's really not as creepy as it sounds.
The Hero and Damsel in distress relationship is what I tend to like. Rescuing a girl can add urgency to a game and makes your quest feel more personal than with the the generally less believable save the entire world theme.
For me the best relationships in video games (at least the ones that made me care the most, and even cry like a little girl) are the stories from the game "Katawa Shoujo", a visual novel (yes, I know what I just said, don't think I'm some kind of weirdo, I didn't like visual novels before I played this game either) in which the characters are developed in a way that most of the games nowadays fail to do (not the case of "The Walking Dead" and "Fire Emblem:Awakening", in my opinion), creating really moving backstories for each character in the game, even making the mature scenes in the game be taken seriously (I know that sounds weird but just go with it).
The darkness pulled it off so well for me, when jenny died I was prity pissed tbh. Probably one of the most immersive games I have ever played :(
I seen a some relationships in games but I cant say I seen alot of uique lovers to say since most of my game protaganists are forever alone guys.
I have never really played a game with a relationship that can be compared to a real life one. I have played Mario with him saving Princess Peach and The Legend of Zelda where he was trying to help Zelda.
When you enter watch a video about relationships in video games and they mention Mario and Princess who the hells know what their relationship is, you know is was made for a Nintendo Fanboy or Fangirl. Erase that and put any relationship from Final Fantasy, Xenogears, Tales or Metal Gear, in which btw relationship are important in the history and for so in the game.
I liked the Witcher relationships, as they varied. I also thought the Darkness 2 relationship was good and the family-like bong between Dom and Marcus especially in Gears 2 and 3 as it didn't feel forced.
5 Like So far, my best relationship, in an game was the one of Jenny Romano and Jackie Estacado in The Darkness.
The scene where they both sit quietly on the couch to watch TV while being pressed to each other, just doing nothing... appreciating their own company... was the most romantic scene I ever saw in any game. It was so much more incredible than all that crap in jRPGs with people kissing in lakes, on top of hills, blushing every 3 seconds and all that.
It was mature without any extra bells to force anything special and because of that, I was blown away.

The relationship I loved the most is the one I also hate the most. 15-16 Years ago when I was younger and playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time, I was completely devastated by the death of Aeris. I even named her after a girl I had a crush on in middle school. I spent far to much time being trolled by people telling me how it was possible to save her. Then I had to settle for Tifa and her giant fake boobs. blah...
Other great relationships where Liliana and Morrigan in Dragon Age. I loved both their voices and hearing them argue via banter over which one would get my characters affection.
2 Like @carolino @Sekhemket Hard to spoil a fifteen year old, 50 hour long game :\ Especially when Aeris' death has been featured in a few hundred articles on gaming sites. Everyone who would possibly play the game already knows about it.
@carolino Are you serious? The game is decade and half old. That is like getting mad if someone said Kevin Spacey is Keysor Sosay or website that was about movies reviews.
I mean honestly, stay away from gaming websites if you do not want spoilers about games that old. I haven't beaten Mass Effect 3 yet so I refuse to even read an article that has hints about it.

3 Like You do Kreia a great injustice, madam. She isn't bat shit crazy; she's a brilliant critique of Star Wars. Including the idea of being a "light side" jedi. She's anti-dogmatic. If you say "I am playing a light side", you are making an a priori decision on morality, before the moral decision is even posed. How can you judge what is moral in a situation, if you don't keep an open mind to the consequences of your action? What gets you light side points? Being nice? What lets you sleep with an easy concience? Would you accept a cruelty if it lead to a greater good? What would you sacrifice? Would you let your light side character fall, in order help more people?
Kreia had a philosophy that was in order to ensure the best outcome, we must remain open minded to the possible outcomes, and not just those which we are told to choose from. I would say that is the only moral way to conduct oneself, because in making your own decisions in the moment is the only option that gives one moral autonomy, and not some inherited code of right and wrong written (in the case of the star wars lore) thousands of years ago. To advocate that is to advocate a sort of freedom that we as humans have been searching for our entire existence. I wouldn't call that crazy at all.
