Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of time (N64)

What can be said about Ocarina of time that already hasn't been said? It is a game that stands that test of time, a pinnacle of gaming, a true masterpiece.

Some might argue that Majora's Mask is the better Nintendo 64 Zelda title, but Ocarina of time came first, and blew my mind when I was just a kid. The sheer epic feeling the intro evokes takes me back to the age of innocence, to the time of imagination, where everything's possible.

I am not going to lie, I play through the game at least once every two or so years, I am familiar with it, but I also try to forget everything I know about the game, to relive Link's quest to save Hyrule from Ganon no matter what. I can't erase the order of which I do the play through, but I do get stuck sometimes getting ahead of myself. Link gets woken up by a fairy, Na'vi, after a nightmare where he catches a glimpse of princess Zelda running away and the evil Ganondorf. Na'vi takes him to the Great Deku tree, where Link tries to remove it's curse that's slowly suffocating it.

After you succeed, you find out that the tree is already too weak, and it can't escape the inevitable. Before passing away, the Great Deku tree gives link the Spiritual Stone of the Forest, tells him to speak with the Princess, and let's link know who's responsible for the curse. That is where our hero embarks on the epic journey of time.

The game controls similar to Mario 64. If it isn't broke, don't fix, which is the only reasonable move, since Mario 64 set the standard for all the games making a 2D to 3D transition. By genre it's a true Action-Adventure, a perfect blend of plat forming, combat and exploration, the big emphasis on the exploration, most of the puzzles in the game are solved but going around, finding out how and what, trying different combinations, using different items, and every now and then you're rewarded with a heart piece or a new unique item.

The sound design is pure genius. Everything from background music to the tunes Link learns to play on the Ocarina is memorable. Even my sister, who never picked the game up, the Song of storms stayed forever in her mind, ever so often she hums it and asks me from where is that tune. And the in-game feeling the sound delivers is perfect. Sometimes I find myself getting excited to see what's in the chest, even though I know, just because of the rich jingle.
Pros:
• Amazing game for its time
• Epic journey
• Fun gameplay
Cons:
• Water temple

If you own a Nintendo 64, you probably own this title, if not, what are you waiting for? This game stands the test of time and it is a must have game for the platform.
