Chris Watters sees an old classic made new in this video review of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
....p.s. Folks- ONCE AGAIN_ CInematics eat MEMORY- I'd rather have a well thought out Game- with all the memory (dedicated) to ACTUAL GAME PLAY_- alright- IF I wanna see another Badly Produced CInematic FLop- I'll go see the Frlippin; Bobbit~lol~!
SAVE YOUR CASH_ there will be a new BUndle coming out in January with ZELDA for 3ds XL for only $130. This even trumps BEstBUy's under stocked $159. bundle with MArioKart-
I wanted to get this game when the 3ds was first released but i wasn't too impressed with the size of the screen... with the 3ds XL coming out, I'm getting them both. Hopefully Majora's Mask 3D follows soon.
Maybe a remake of a Link to Past too? ;)
I'm not really liking what they did with this game... I mean it looks great.. but young link who is supposed to be 12 looks considerably more baby like in this game. almost like a 6 year old. and if you look at the adult link.... His back... is so short... why....Otherwise everything else is good.. I just hate look at the main protagonist looking worse in terms of artistic design. I've always hated how link didnt have that belt obliquely around his torso in the original N64 version. All in all Link looks is best in Melee and in Majora's Mask.
lets see... ocarina of time, better graphics, and the master quest.
sounds good... if you have a 3DS.
when i think of the greatest game ever made the first game that pops into my head is this, zelda the ocarina of time i first played it in 1999 and in my opinion no other game leaves me so maney happy memory's of fun and joy than this master piece.
Pretty much the greatest RPG/Adventure game ever and the foundation which all Zelda games should be built. Open world Zelda...can't miss.
I wish they'd release this without the gimmick 3D on Wii Marketplace... Many people don't like handhelds, or just think they've grown out of them.
@powerfulone1987 As is the case with most remakes, many people who are interested in it are people who played the original version. While story is important to a review, there are so many new things to talk about. If you want a review about the story, I'd suggest clicking on the Zelda OoT (64) link about one centimeter to the left of your pokemon portrait. I'm not disagreeing with you that this could have included more, but gamespot has already reviewed this game when it was on the 64. cheers
@grbolivar It goes without saying that EVERYBODY does not know and considering the reviewer made it a point to recommend this game to THOSE WHO HAVE NOT PLAYED IT, I think they're aware of this as well because they're not stupid, so yes, it would have been justified, especially since they're recommending it to people like me who have not played it. Either way, I got the Ocarina of Time Zelda 3DS Bundle so I'll be playing it either way I guess.
@powerfulone1987 No point in wasting review time talking about the history of a game everybody know is epic... The review was very good.
I would have much preferred this review touch on many of the story elements of this game, which is what I'm more interested in than anything else in order to brush up on my Zelda knowledge, having played so few of them myself and just getting into Skyward Sword.
Even though I want to play it to see ,what all the fuss is about, I just can't get pass the terribly dated graphics that just don't hold up. The only chance this game has of me playing it MAYBE is if I'm able to get that Nintendo 3DS Zelda Bundle tomorrow at Best Buy. Other than that, there's really no need for me to get a 3DS at this point with its lacking library and no reason for me to get Ocarina of Time with its dated presentation. That bland, empty, desolate world looks so depressing to play through. SIMPLY CANNOT DO IT.
The game that made me fall in love with games, zelda the ocarina of time even this updated version will never be beatin never!!
What I often find with old games such as this, is that even though you know that by comparison, graphics that were great then aren't as much so now, let's remember this is on a portable console, is that I realise how good it was back then, I'll use Tekken 3 as an example. The graphics look awful now, it was only decent then, such is the graphical limitations of the PS1 for not including trilinear filtering (which gives you the smoother, unpixelated graphics of the N64) but it was amazing for it's time, and yet now it's just as addictive. And hence I don't see the hunters point, I think graphics are obviously limited on a protale anyway. But the gameplay is more important and it is stunning, played the original, everbody tells me they love the new one. I would like to have the game myself.
I would give it a 6.5 to be honest. A ton of review sites clearly push out numbers because they judge a game on what it was back in the day rather then what it actually is now on the current system. Oot has been done so many times now, it just isn't a new game anymore towards most people. The game features extra's as master quest and boss fights. but it just doesn't add already done content. The visual quality and sound simple do not weight up against this time standards for a game released in 2011 on a 2011 platform. Its just a mixed bag all together. the animations are half done etc. It could be so much better if it got released with a proper budget a proper development company and on a proper console like the upcoming wii u. The game was a strong game simple through incredible visuals / incredible journey that wasn't seen before / incredible sound / incredible new exiting gameplay. The 3DS simple doesn't offer it. They didn't even try really. Sites that gives out 10's and 9's are just ridicilous, good lord gamespot still keeps there reviews neutral.
@Xplode_77 An 8.5 seems very fair for this game. I probably would have given it an 8. This is a game that has been released already and ported on several different platforms. It's also based on a 90's model of design and structure. All they really did was include the Master Quest mode (which existed previously as a stand-alone renovation) as well as some graphical and detail touch ups. It wasn't a major overscale. They added the timed boss challenge. Still not worth anything over an 8.5, in my opinion. I thought the score was fair. It's just an old game, it aged gracefully, but like anything that ages, it won't be in its tip-top prime it was back in its day.
My initial reaction on the graphics: "wow, they kinda made this game look a bit better than the original." My reaction after seeing the new castle town: "HOLY CRAP! Remember when castle town was a dull gray!?!?!?!?!??! This is amazing!!!!!" lol
Never played a Zelda game in my life properly before. I will have this game soon and I really hope it is as good as people here are saying. It will be a brand new experience for me!
If you haven't played this before then buy it. To me though I played the game numerous times since 1998 so the story carries no surprises and I know where all the secrets are. I'm much more interested in fresh experiences for the system. For instance I'm waiting for Super Mario 3D Land.
About a year ago, I beat the original for n64 (again) and I can say that this is definitely a step up for this game. I have always wanted to play my favorite game of all time whenever and wherever I wanted to and now I can! From the moment I put this game in, I could tell it would be special all over again, and it is! I am still in the early stages of the game and can already tell that this not only brings back memories, but delves you deeper into this adventure that has been remade and revamped for the future so that everyone can experience one of gaming's most influential games of all time in a whole new way.
Being a hardcore Zelda fan, I own all the Ninty releases of the Zelda series, which included three copies of Ocarina of Time, and the MQ (thanks to the collectors edition on the GC) but still intend to get it for the 3DS as soon as I can afford to spare the time :)
The last nintendo console I purchased was the n64. This game has changed not only gaming for me, but my entire life. I cant view it as only a game, its such an amazing experience. I was never a handheld gamer, but I was more than willing to change that for this game. This game will always be a part of me.
yeah, the graphic is quite amazing.although i have played the game on n64,this still really worth the second try
I have this on the N64 and the gamecube re-release but i think i shall buy it again :) it looks so much better than it did before
If i wanted to, just hook my N64 back up & play this game all over again, but i can always just buy the virtual console for my wii for 1000 points (10$), Nintendo wants me to buy a 3DS & this game for 200$... no thank you, I'll wait till you have better software.
I think I'm about to buy a 3DS, just to play this again. unshakable classic. 1998?!!?!? yikes that feels like only yesterday!
