It's time for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask review! For the Gamecube. Just like Ocarina of time, Majora's Mask was originally an N64 title, but was ported over to the Gamecube on a collector's disc.

One feature that most Zelda games do not have, is a direct sequel, but that's not the case with this game. Majora's Mask is the direct sequel to Ocarina of Time. You don't NEED to play Ocarina of Time to understand this game, but if you haven't, why the heck not!? Huh…Anyway…

The story starts out with some text, telling you that the young boy, Link, has set out on a personal journey, away from Hyrule, after he has defeated Ganon, from Ocarina of Time. It shows Link riding on his horse Epona through a forest.

The camera then shows two fairies watching him. They fly over which startles Epona, who throws Link off of her. Just then, you see the Skull Kid wearing a strange looking mask. He walks over to Link, and picks up The Ocarina of Time.

After a while, Link wakes up, looks at the Skull Kid and leaps at him. The Skull Kid dodges, jumps onto Epona, and starts to ride off, but not before Link jumps and grabs hold of The Skull Kid, and is now being dragged along the ground.

After a bit, Link lets go and The Skull Kid and the two fairies ride off with Epona, and so your journey begins. After a ways of chasing, Link comes to a huge ledge, in which he falls down. After surviving somehow, he meets the Skull Kid and the two fairies.

The Skull Kid tells him that as a favor, he got rid of your horse because it apparently didn't listen to anything the Skull Kid said to her. The Skull Kid says he wants to have some fun with you, so he uses the mask's powers, to turn you completely into a Deku Scrub!

As the Skull Kid laughs, he leaves with one of the fairies, Tael, and accidentally forgets the other, Tatl. Tatl says that she will join Link until they find the Skull Kid. After a while of roaming, they come to a big room with a bunch of gears working away.
As they go for the exit door, they turn around to find the Happy Mask Salesman. He tells Link that he has been following him for a while, and he knows a way to restore him back to his normal self.

All he needs to do is retrieve the Ocarina of Time back from the Skull Kid. And in return, Link needs to retrieve the mask that was stolen from him. But the catch is, you have to do it within three days, and in this game, three days is more like 30 minutes max. So with nothing else to do, Link agrees.

As you walk through the doors, you emerge into Clock Town. Tatl says that you need to go see The Great Fairy first. But when you do find her, she is broken up into smaller fairies, and it is your job to find the remaining stray fairy.

Once you find it, The Great Fairy is restored, and grants you Magic Power. With this, you can now blow bubbles as a Deku Scrub. After that, uh…it's kind of a long procedure, just know that you will eventually come across the Skull Kid once again, on the 3rd day.

Sorry, but this beginning is very long to explain.
Anyway, you, the Skull Kid and the two fairies are on top of the huge clock in the middle of the town. Tael tells you to bring the four from the Swamp, Mountain, Ocean, and Canyon, before it's too late.

Just then, the Skull Kid uses the masks power to call down the moon, and crash into the town. What's up with the moon having a face? And a freaky looking one at that! Anyway, Link uses his bubble technique and shoots it at the Skull Kid, who accidentally drops the Ocarina.

Once Link gets it back, he plays the Song of Time, on his Deku Pipes, which is the Deku version of the Ocarina, which teleports him back three days into the past, where you first start your journey in Clock Town. As you meet up with The Happy Mask Salesman, he teaches you the Song of Healing, which turns you back into a Hylian.

You also get to keep the spirit of your Deku Scrub self in a mask. Once you put it on, you will turn back into a Deku Scrub, but you can take it back off at anytime, to become a hylian once more.
Since you didn't recover the mask for the Happy Mask Salesman, he gets upset and tells you that that mask is called Majora's Mask, which will make the wearer very evil and powerful. He tells you that you must retrieve it in at least three days.

Once you are back in the town, Tatl tells you that she thinks you need to go to the four areas around the town that Tael was talking about. The Swamp, Mountain, Ocean, and Canyon. So off you go.
This review will be very similar to my Ocarina of Time review, because the graphics, controls, and game-play, are all very similar, in both games. If you will notice, pretty much all the characters from Ocarina of Time have been ported over to Majora's Mask.

Some of them have the same role, and some have a different one. There are some new characters as well, so it's not completely the same.

At the time of its release, the graphics for this game were just as good as they were for Ocarina of Time. Actually, I think they may have polished it up a bit.

I noticed how the characters, and you, would move in a smoother way. And, I think they brushed up on the detail as well, which was nice.

The controls were just as good as they were in Ocarina of Time. Move with the analog stick, attack with the B button, and use your items with the C-Stick.

One noticeable feature in this game, is that Link can turn not only into a Deku Scrub, but also into a Goron, and a Zora as well, via their own masks. Each mask can give Link new powers and abilities, and just like the Deku mask, you can take them off at anytime.

And the other noticeable fact about this game, is that Link does not have the Master Sword. Instead, he has the Kokiri Sword, (Dagger). But, there is a place to get it upgraded to the Razor Sword, and even further than that is the Gilded Sword!
I HIGHLY recommend you obtain this sword! It is very powerful and has a longer reach, so you will have a much easier time killing off the more advanced enemies with it!

Since you only have three game days to complete the whole game, you will have to play the Song of Time to revert back to the beginning. When you do this, the whole game will be set back to the beginning, the characters, the bosses and the scenarios.
Don't worry, you don't have to complete the dungeons over and over. Once you complete a dungeon, it will be saved, but the boss fight won't, so in some circumstances, you will have to fight the bosses, a couple times.

Also when you go back in time, all of your minor items will be gone. Your Deku Nuts, arrows, Deku Seeds, all of your collectable items, and even your Rupees will be gone.
Fortunately, there is a bank in which you can save your rupees, which is very helpful. Make sure you save them before you play the Song of Time! Trust me, I learned it the hard way…

In my opinion, unlike Ocarina of Time, there are LOADS of side quests! And most of them are obtaining some new kind of mask for your collection. Each mask has a unique ability, used for something in the game. And acquiring all of them is NO easy task.

Some of them use the three day cycle of the game for you to get them. It's not just like do this one little five minute event to get the mask. Oh no! It takes patience, logical thinking, and a good memory to obtain them!

The boss fights were once again, amazing! And they weren't too easy either, just like in Ocarina! But one of the downsides that I found, was that there weren't a lot of boss fights, meaning that the main game was fairly short.

There are only four temples, which was disappointing, coming from Ocarina of Time, which had at least double the amount.
And the second one is, that the game would sometimes have a bit of lag to it. Now I don't know if that was due to my disc, or maybe they jam-packed just a little too much data on the cartridge, or whatever.

All I know is, there is some slow-down at some points in the game, but nothing that will mess you up.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is a fantastic game! Just like Ocarina, the graphics, controls, game-play and boss fights are all terrific!

The only downsides that I found were, that the main story of the game was fairly short! But the massive amount of side quests, and LENGTH to complete most of the side quests, definitely make up for it!

And two, the little lag problem could get annoying at times, but nothing that would make you mess up and get frustrated at.
This game is amazing, and will have you spending hours and hours and HOURS trying to figure out how to obtain the next mask! (Ahem, that is, without a walkthrough...) As you should know if you've watched my other Zelda reviews, you will probably know what score I will give this game.

Yep, that's right, this game gets a 4.5/5 with the title of EPIC!!!
