This unusual Zelda title definitely take some time to get into but after awhile, I enjoyed it!

Majora's Mask follows in Ocarina of Time's footsteps. The game is very strange for a Zelda game, but isn't that the same for all of them? In a way, yes but this particular one is quite unusual so let me explain.

The game takes places after OoT. In the game, Link is riding Epona searching for his long, lost valuable friend (which I believe it's Navi). During his travels, he encounters a Skull Kid with a scary mask, along with 2 faries named Tatl & Tael, that steals his Ocarina (anybody familiar with that??) and kidnaps his horse. As Link follows them, he falls into an unknown, strange world which happens to be Termina. Once he is able to catch up with the Skull Kid, the kid teases him and transforms Link into a Deku Scrub. Afterwards the Skull Kid leaves him along with one of his faries behind, which is Tatl. Feeling abandoned, the fairy decides to help Link and stop Skull Kid in order to get his human form back...but that's not all he has to do. Link soon meets a creepy salesman (yes he is creepy and quite familiar to you) that tells him that he has 3 days to stop Skull Kid and get the mask back which happens to be....yeah you guessed it, Majora's Mask! If Link fails to do so, then terrible things will happen....TERRIBLE THINGS! DX

So what's unusual about this Zelda game? Well for one the game has a more scary, dark, intense storyline (being the first 3D in the series that has one) than OoT and....it has a time limit. (dun dun duuuun!) Yeah the salesman wasn't kidding there, now was he?? You are approximately given 72 hours, which is almost 1 hour in real time, to stop Skull Kid from preventing the Moon to destroying the Clock Town in Termina Field and if you're too late, then it's game over for you! Now this is where things get too uncomfortable and too complicated, but don't worry because there is hope. In the game, you can learn 2 songs with your Ocarina that 1. slows down time and 2. flows time normally. That way you can take your time with the quest and not rush things but don't try to do everything all at once. If you're smart, whatever the mission (or dungeon to be suffice) you complete, you'd save afterwards before starting all the way over and continuing your quest. Also if you'd like to start where you from a certain point, you can find bird statues across the land to continue where you left off but it is limited because whatever time you have left, you'll have to continue from that point or otherwise save and reset your time. So yeah, this game gets very challenging which is a good thing but too complex at the same time. Another thing is that I hate the fact that Link's new companion, Tatl, is not much of a help. She only helps you in the VERY beginning and after that, she rarely gives you good information on where to go and what to do next. I know people prefer her over Navi because she doesn't say "HEY! LOOK! LISTEN!," but I'd rather have Navi instead (I like her way better anyway) since she actually helps you on your whole quest even with her annoying rants. So if you ever get lost on what to do next, try talking to alot of people to get some information or look around to see if something's amiss. If that doesn't help then watch a playthrough online, because that's exactly what I did (yea I'm pathetic). Sorry but this is the main flaw in the game and that's why you really have to use your brain and think, but I guess I'm new to MM's puzzles since I'm just now playing it (which was back in 2008).

The gameplays mechanics is alot like OoT so no need to explain. Though what's fun about the game this time around is that you're given masks! You collect a variety of masks from people but the main ones you're given are much fun. The 3 major masks you recieved are; Deku Scrub (which is the first you begin with), Goron and Zora Mask. I won't go into details with this but once you play the game, you'll know why they're fun to play with (I'll say this though, the Zora Mask is my favorite). Oh and there's another awesome mask you can get but you'll have to find all the mask in the game to achieve it so good luck! ^^

The story is, like I said, scary. The characters are good and you may feel a little sorrow for most of them, but I don't really feel a connection with none of them except a few like the girl and her father (scary part but I won't spoil this), the Guitar Zora and maybe the Skull Kid too. Overall the story is great and maybe slightly better than OoT's story.

The music is decent but not one of the best in the series, in my opinion. Of course they bring back old songs from Ocarina of Time but I don't find the new ones interesting. The main ones I really fell in love with are Song of Healing (very sad song) and Stone Tower Temple (I could hip roll to this if I knew how LOL), that's about it. Though some of the other dungeon themes are pretty good but other than that, the soundtrack is ok.

Overall, Majora's Mask is a great game with an interesting plot device. Though I believe this game will definitely take some time to get into, even more than Wind Waker. I've heard people dislike the game because of the time limit but you really have to get used to it and learn how to manage your missions while playing. Others think that it's way better than Ocarina of Time because you can interact with the characters and it tells a better storyline, which is true. I, for one, still think that OoT is better because...well it's just an amazing game and I truly love it! Now is it better than Wind Waker? Yesiree, but I may want to reconsider that because WW was actually more interesting to play but due to the fact of the tedious sailing after awhile, I consider MM slightly better. But I'm going to give this game the same score as WW because they're both fun, but they have their flaws too. But hey, MM has twist and turns so maybe you might love this game way more but people who are new to the series and would like to try this game first, then it might take awhile for it to grow on you. But try this game out, you'll see what it can bring! 9/10
