Raises the bar for everything that's out there

User Rating: 9 | The Last of Us PS3

The Last of Us takes place in a future ruined by a deadly virus that appeared from nowhere, and somehow also managed to wipe out most of the population from our dear planet Earth. During your stay in this world that is now ruled by nature – and the basic instinct of survival - you’ll meet Joel and Ellie. It’s going to be one hell of a ride, but I’m sure you’ll get along really well.

In this age where games try too hard to reach Hollywood levels of storytelling (whatever that may be), Naughty Dog succeeded in creating a marvelous, authentic experience that hopefully will be fondly remembered for years to come. The Last of Us is a game, and while it isn’t ashamed of being one, it also doesn’t shy away from telling a great, engaging story. It’s hard not to care about what’s going to happen, and where are you going next after spending a few hours wandering around with Joel and Ellie.

Their – your – survival is of the utmost importance here, and to survive, creativity is needed. Players who explore the environment are rewarded with resources, which are needed to craft useful items. And while they aren't as scarce as they appear to be (unless you’re playing in the hardest difficulty setting, which is only unlocked after beating the game once), hanging on to everything you have is still the best option. For this, evading open combat and being discreet is a must. And in the most intense moments, it’s also breathtaking.

The Last of Us is a beautiful, unique game that will probably stay in your mind for a long time.

Good Points: Great plot and characters. stealth, terrific environments, Naughty Dog's attention to small detail, manages to keep players in control while delivering a truly cinematic experience

Bad Points: Low replay value, minor glitches sometimes break the immersion, the game slows down for a bit after the amazing intro sequence and stays that way for a few chapters
