The Good vs Bad when it comes down to House of the Dead: Overkill (Extended Cut)

User Rating: 7.5 | The House of the Dead: Overkill - Extended Cut PS3
House of the Dead has always been one of my favorites when it comes down to rail shooters. Ever y House of the Dead title I've played has managed to keep me satisfied for long periods of time and has been well worth my money (or tokens) since the very first one. I could honestly sit in an arcade full of fun games and only play House of the Dead for hours, sacrificing time and tokens to beat the game and get on the leaderboards. Did House of the Dead: Overkill (Extended Cut) prove itself as a worthy addition to the series? Find out by reading on in this review!

Before we actually get started though, I'd like to mention that I own Overkill on the Wii, but never finished it due to me getting swamped with other games to play. Then I found out about the PS3 release and didn't bother going back. With that being said, I really can't make any comparisons between the two, so don't look forward to any except for the graphics.

House of the Dead: Overkill (Extended Cut) is indeed a fun game, especially amongst many other rail-shooters. There is quite a bit to do including; the Story Mode, Directors Cut mode, and even mini-games that you and a friend could enjoy. With all that can be done, the games replay value is decent at best.

Speaking of the story, I'd have to admit that though it's covered up by ridiculousness, silly puns, and excessive language, the story is pretty interesting. A second player can also drop in at any time and join the fun.
Its transfer from the Wii to the PS3gave the games graphics quite an upgrade as well. The edges are much more defined, I've experienced no screen tearing and the 3D is executed quite well, though it's hardly noticeable (like most games) unless you turn the 3D percentage to 100.

Unfortunately, though the game is quite fun there seems to be a flaw with the PS Moves calibration. I've had to re-calibrate my Playstation Move controllers numerous times while playing, especially when I decided to play without the crosshairs.

The game is funny at times, but for me there was way too much use of unnecessary language. Call me what you want, but hearing a line of swears just about every 30 seconds started off funny, but got annoying fast.
Overall, House of the Dead: Overkill (Extended Cut) is a fun game that will keep you quite entertained, especially if you like rail-shooters. However, due to its flaws it receives a 7.5/10 from me and definitely gets my props as being worth a rent. Especially if you have friends to play with.
