Pros:
- Exploring
- Some exciting levels
- Gems and coins
- Combat is okay
- Storytelling is okay
Cons:
- Not the smoothest mechanics
- Save system
- Takes forever
- Save points are sometimes too spread out, causing you to replay things over and over
- Doesn’t give the source material the respect it deserves
- Bilbo names ‘sting’ as soon as he gets it
- Sting always glows
- Totally brushes over Rivendell
- Never really get to know any of the dwarves
- Too cartoony. (Yeah, The Hobbit should be on the lighthearted side, but not dumb)
- No gameplay for some of the most exciting scenes (Warg attack, Golem encounter)
- Brushes over large swaths of plot
- In general, the game focuses mainly on jumping around various challenges with simple combat (reminds me a lot of Spyro, except Spyro is better)
Nitpickey:
- Would have liked more cutscenes (It has a few here and there, but the narrative is largely told through storybook illustrations with a narrator)
Rating:
- Story ****** 6/10
- Gameplay ***** 5/10
- Atmosphere ****** 6/10
- Overall ****** 6/10
