The Goonies II was one of those games i had a try of because i quite liked the movie, and being only 7 when i 1st saw this game in 1989 being demo'd on a pod, i just had to play it, and each time i played it...i'd stand there at the NES Pod for about 20-30 minutes playing it.
Mind you i was never very good at this game back then, Thank goodness for Emulation....and i'm able to play this anytime i'd like, and being a NES game i can run it on my Tapwave Zodiac PDA....YAYNESS!!
It's still not the same however, and i am personally seeking out a copy of this game in Cart form, like a lot of other 8/16-Bit titles i'm trying to collect
Anyway, back to Goonies II...i was impressed by how this game looked, played and felt like to play.
The Graphics looked perfect for the hardware, and all the characters in the game stood out perfectly (It's funny how now that i think about it, i look back...The games back then had more imagination behind the box artwork, they couldn't render the Images they had on the artwork into the actual Video Game back then....it was upto the creator and the imagination to add depth and character to a game, in the 8-bit days)
The game play might seem quite challenging to someone who might've started on the 32-bit era and upwards...unless you've actually played Namco Arcade Collection or something similar in which case...you'll love how simple this game is, also....one thing which seems to always come flooding back is the NES's legendary Sound effects and music abilities.
This game has sections with really atmospheric music that really takes people back down memory lane...and as for controls.....Super simplicity....IS HOW IT SHOULD BE...and super responsive
Overall: one of my All time fave games, and i wish people could translate simple games like this into 3D, the proper way and not half assed like a lot of people seem to opt for, when it comes to games creation and design
