User Rating: 8 | The Evil Within PS4

This game is sprinkled with a lot of Resident Evil 4 and beyond elements. The gameplay is very similar to that of Resident Evil 6 (only that the inventory system is a lot better). This brings back the genre of SURVIVAL/Horror. Even on Casual Difficulty, you will die.... a LOT. There are certain levels where it's better to run and hide rather than going head on with the 'zombies' (or undead). The enemies you go against aren't exactly 'dead' until you light a match and throw it over their bodies. Otherwise, they'll 're-animate'. It puts a whole new spin on conserving your ammo AND matches. The level bosses are interesting as well. One minute, you're trying to move in stealth fashion, then the next minute you're running for your life (since some enemies can one-hit kill you). The character development for the protagonists are truly forgetful. Heck, the main character is truly forgettable. The strength of this game is survival, a cerebral acid trip, and a lot of gore. Aside from that, the game is good. You can tell that this was meant for last-gen consoles. The graphics are not exactly something worth bragging about nor does it look like it uses the full potential of the PS4's hardware. If there is ONE gripe I have with this game, it's that the console versions have a forced 'letterbox' aspect to the gameplay. You cannot get rid of the solid black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. So you're basically using only 70% of whatever nice HDTV screen you have to play this awesome game.
